If this problem exists mainly when the engine is hot it may be the coil.

If it has a clutch, that would be the problem. An electric clutch will kick on and off when it is hot if it is bad.

SOURCE: John Deere 4210 brakes are locked up

On both sides of trans housing just in front of axles is where brake shafts go into trans. To fix this you have to spray alot of lube between shaft and housing while trying to rotate shaft. This may take hours to free up and also check for the return springs to still be hooked up to lower roll bar frame.I have seen this alot in the 4000 series tractors.

How to determine if there is a PTO clutch problem on Craftsman Model 917.275900 ? Have replace PTO switch twice recently. Second switch appears to show some melting inside when button came out !

You have something shorting out somewhere if switches are melting. I would trace these wires to see if they are rubbing on frame and grounding out somewhere. If your not sure I would take this on in to a repair faculity.

I have a Kenwood KDC-116S in my truck and found that it is causing my battery to drain . When I disconnect the battery it draws a spark. When I disconnect the radio lead I no longer get the spark. Can...

The YELLOW wire is connected to 'constant' 12v power. This is necessary for the receiver to retain the memory settings (i.e. station presets etc).

So, yes... your unit will draw power, but this will be very minimal.

Try disconnecting the Yellow wire for a few days and see if this makes any difference. If not, you will need to inspect the wiring loom to determine if there is another short somewhere. If everything looks ok, then the short must be somewhere else, within the vehicle.

My stereo sysytem is a mini stereo: serial number 10200055. It currently says "protect", what is this and how do we return our system to normal operations?

Hi there,

When the word PROTECT appears on this display, this means the unit has detected a critical fault which could potentially cause harm to your stereo system.

The most common cause is a short circuit somewhere - something even as simple as loose speaker wiring could cause a short, triggering the Protect message.

You will need to determine if there is a possible short somewhere, so I recommend you start by firstly turning power OFF, disconnecting all speaker wires, then turn unit back ON.

Operate the stereo (without speakers) and turn volume up:
  • If Protect message appears when turning volume up, then stereo unit itself has an internal fault
  • If no Protect message appears, then suspect the speakers may be causing the issue.
  • Reduce volume and turn unit OFF
Re-connect speakers (ensure the connections are secure), turn unit ON:
  • If turning volume up triggers the Protect message again, there is an issue with the speakers or connections

Hope this helps.....

I have a 99 VW Golf and the battery went totally dead. When I tried to jump it the cables started smoking and the wires melted. A volatage meter registers zero when the battery is connected to the car...

At 5 Volts the battery is totally cactus (a fully charged battery should read above 12.6 V) and from the description of hot melting wires appears the battery has a dead short between cells. Try a new battery and check battery terminal voltage before and after connection, with every thing turned off. If terminal voltage drops more than 0.2 V it would indicate excessive current draw by a faulty component. You may have to have the electrical system checked by an auto electrician to determine if there is any other faukts in the system.

Signals on mercury sable 2002

I think that it could be a short somewhere along the circuit. Your front turn indicators, your dash blinkers, and your rear turn indicators are all on one circuit. Maybe a wire rubbed on a piece of metal or got too hot and the plastic housing melted off. Electrical problems are nothing to toy with as they can lead to your car burning to the ground. I'd take it in so a technician can run some tests to determine if there is a short somewhere along the line.

Bush toaster is blowing fuses when switched on

It appears that there is a short in the toaster somewhere. Many times it is the cord. See if you can remove the cord and then test to see if the two leads of the cord are shorted with an ohmeter.

Sometimes a part can go shorted, and an over voltage occures somewheres thus causing another part to blow. This can be anywhere from in the power supply to any of the other boards.

The set would have to be serviced to determine the cause and what was damaged. Most likely there will be the need to change some boards. Most of the service is done by a combination of board replacement and some component replacement depending on the exact type of fault.
