This model has mother board problems. In addition to sudden auto switch off, it also has problems in starting the system. what Acer workshop can do for you is to change a new mother board. After changing mother board, the problem comes back after some time. So my advice is change a new PC. of course not Acer again.

How to unlock bios of toshiba portege m500

two options

1. look on the mother board for a small round battery about the size of a nickle, remove it, start pc, after start up shut down, replace battery, start up again... or remove battery, let sit for about 30min, replace battery start pc.

2. look for a small red or yellow toggle switch or button on the mother board, (should say "reset bios") push button, restart pc.

i assume this is a lap top so there will be some disassembly of the unit, not to extreme though, usualy the battery and the switch/button are next to one another and located toward the front of the mother board, and if in lap tops the battery or batteries are in a plastic covering wired to the mother board with a small connector, just unplug connector if you cant find the reset button.

hope that helps

Bought new power supply, no difference power button will not even go on or light up ; however small green light on mother board lights up. als accidentaly disconnected the switches wiring to the mother...

The green light just show that the motherboard is getting power.
The power button of the front of the case is connected to the mother board, not to the power supply, usually in the extreme lower left corner along with the with the HDD and Reset Button cords; Power button wire are labeled and usually red/black.
If all wired correctly, possible bad or stuck power button or reset button.
Hope this helps.

My mother's garage door opener doesn't make any noise when the button is pressed. The light will come on and stay on for its predetermined time, then go out. Press the button again, the light comes on...

There are some possibilities here. If you have had electrical storms or a power surge it could have damaged the logic board. You would need to pull the board and check for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.

Or it could be that the door is stuck open. If that is the case the trolley is most likely jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. You will need to loosen the chain enough to release the tension and then run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed you need to locate the 'up limit' adjustment on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

If it isn't either of these possibilities post back with more clues and I'll try some more.

No power, power supply seems ok,green light on mother board on. when pluged in the fan runs for a couple seconds and turns off.power button has no effect.

sounds like a mother board issue,

start with pulling out all ram chips and re try,,

then try pulling all cards out like old modem and also cdroms.

if ever thing but power is unpluged its a bad mother board or CPU chip

Emachines T3958 will not turn on

Check the fuse on the inside of it and see if it is not blown, if not blown change it any way it may not look like it is blown but it is hard to tell, and see if that work.

If you feel the power adapter working fine with the diff unit its not an issue with the adapter,

Now, if the unit is not powering on.just perform this:

Take out the batter, adapter and make the unit stand alone and press and hold the Power button with out any power to the unit(Without battery , adapter) by doing that we can take the static charge which might be causing the issue,

The purple light is flashing in the front and tries to start and won't turn on. disconnected power cord and held button in for thirty seconds still have same issue what could it be?

This can be a faulty power supply or a damaged mother board. here's how you can confirm.

When pressing the power button, inspect the cooling fan that is located on the back of the power unit where the power cord plugs in. if the fan starts then stops immediately, this will confirm a damaged power supply.

Now, if the fan continues to operate but, the CPU doesn't start to power up and load the OS, thsi will confirm a mother board issue. replace the mother board in this case.

The power led and reset was both on

We have to open the system unit where the motherboard is located, but first pull off the power of your computer so that there will be no ground.

Removed the cover, before touching any part inside the system unit (motherboard) touch first the casing or chas-is of the system unit to removed the static in our body.

Let us first remove the reset wire usually the color is red and black it has a name reset at the connection pin at the mother board usually found at the bottom of the mother board, or follow the reset botton wire found infront of your system unit.

After you have removed, try to plug the power of your computer and turn it on. We can open our computer if the reset connection is off.

That will be the first step to know the cause of the problem. Try also to clean the motherboard using vacuum cleaner the portable only or clean paint brush, cause some of those problem due to dust.

Sounds like the power supply is faulting. If not it is your mother board that has failed.
