Question about Dyson DC25 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

We love our Dyson DC25 Animal but we just got new carpet and it's like pushing furniture around the room. I know it doesn't have a height adjustment but is there any other option?

It worked fine on our very old matted carpet and picked up every spec of dust and pet hair, but I don't have the muscles to push it over the new carpet.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your DC25 Animal on this particular type of carpeting. This sounds unusual especially as it worked effectively on your older carpeting. As DC25 is engineered to adjust automatically to different floor types and pile heights, there is unlikely to be an issue with the vacuum itself.

It may be worth checking directly with the carpet manufacturer for their guidance on caring for this specific type of flooring. Manufacturers will sometimes recommend vacuuming certain types of long-pile or delicate carpeting with the motorised brush bar turned off.

If you'd like any further guidance from our experts, you can reach us by calling the Dyson Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

    Jack,

Your answer is not an answer at all. We have 3 Dyson vacuums and the DC-25 cannot vacuum our new Karastan carpet, as the fibers are too long and the vacuum doesn't adjust to the height. As a matter of fact, NONE of our Dyson vacuums can handle the longer fibers.

The idea that you would push the issue off to the carpet manufacturer is ludicrous. Either the DC-25 can handle it or it can't....and in my opinion, it can't.

I like my Dyson vacuums but will be buying a different brand for our new carpets.

Hi Ashley, I'm sorry if you feel my guidance wasn't helpful. DC25's floating cleaner head design means it adjusts automatically to different carpet heights and floor types - no need to adjust a manual dial or slider control. Although we test across a very wide selection of popular floorings, it would be impossible for us to test every available floor type. As I've mentioned, the carpet manufacturer is best placed to confirm the correct way of caring for this particular flooring, which is why I would encourage you to contact them if you're not sure. Per my original response, my colleagues in our US Support team are also available if you'd like to discuss your concerns directly. You can call on 1-866-693-9766, or if you'd prefer to email the correct address is askdysonUS@dyson.com

SOURCE: dyson animal won't push on carpet; turning off then on works for

First check to see if the gray plate that you removed to access the brushbar is back on the machine properly. Also, make sure that the long black strip on the plate is on properly and is not making it harder to push the machine.

Lastly, you are able to remove what is called a "ropeseal" from the bottom of the machine which will allow more air to flow underneath the machine. This won't affect the suction power of the machine.

To remove the ropeseal, take the gray soleplate off again and have a look at what would be the inside of the plate - you'll see a long, thin piece of rubber/foam that looks like a rope/string sitting in a groove all the way around the openings that the brushbar bristles stick through. Remove the seal and keep it in a safe place. Your machine will be easier to push now.

Reading this blog. Dyson is of little to no help. How disappointing when you spend a small fortune on one of their products. I'm just now experiencing hard to push with. DC25 Animal. Can't adjust height....

sorry to say your dyson is not the fault, its your carpet, a lot of new carpets have a tight weave pattern, this makes it impossible to push any vacuum. all new carpets have a directional pile always vacuum with the pile. The best option is to buy a auto drive kirby it does all he hard work for you. you can pick a refurbished one up for around 300

Cannot push my DC17 animal forward on plush carpet. front digs in.

Make sure brush is spinning properly and that all wheels on base plate are there and spin freely. Make sure bottom of baseplate is clean. If these are all ok you may need a model that offers height adjustment for your style of carpet.

The Dyson DC25 grips new carpet. How can I adjust the brush height

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson upright vacuums, DC25 is engineered to adjust automatically to different carpet piles, without stopping to adjust any fiddly levers or dials. You can also turn the rotating brush bar off to clean hard floors and delicate rugs - just press the silver brush control switch next to the red on/off switch.

If you're having difficulty using your DC25 on a particular type of new carpeting, we'd recommend checking directly with the carpet manufacturer for their advice. They should be able to recommend the best way of caring for this flooring.

For any additional assistance from our experts, you can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My carpet nap is very thick and it is very hard to vacuum with my Dyson dc17 animal. I need to know if there is a way to adjust the height on the vacuum

    Hi Deb,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using DC17 on this particular carpet type. DC17 is engineered to adjust automatically to different floor types, and does not need manual height adjustment.

Carpet manufacturers sometimes recommend vacuuming deep or delicate carpet piles with the rotating brush bar turned off. We'd recommend checking with the manufacturer of your carpeting as they'll be best placed to offer advice on the correct way of cleaning it. To turn off the brush bar on DC17, just use the silver brush control switch next to the red on/off switch.

It's also worth checking that the soleplate is fitted correctly. Any dirt or residue on the soleplate can be removed with a damp cloth - make sure it's completely dry before refitting it. You can find out how to remove and replace it here: http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=962&product=DC17-ANIMAL

I hope this helps, but if you would like further advice after you've given this a try, please email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com. One of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible.

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your new DC25. Please ensure the HEPA filter is securely locked into place, by pushing it firmly down until you hear an audible click. Please also check that the filter cover is correctly fitted. Both of these steps are shown in this in this video guide:
