Which manufacturers make a lawn tractor that uses a drive shaft?

I need to find a riding mower/lawn tractor that uses a drive shaft instead of one that is belt-driven, since we have some hills that we would have to mow, and belt drives can't handle hills for too long. Do you know of any manufacturers/models there are that use a drive shaft? Thanks in advance!

If it is a Craftsman riding mower, it has to have a drive belt unless it is shaft-driven. Its behaving precisely like a mower which has a drive belt that is so worn its "hanging by a thread - literally". That's why it won't pull a hill but is OK on level ground. You need to replace the drive belt, but you need to find it first. Consult your manual about what belt to use (you can get it at Sears) and the routing pattern.

My craftsman tractor wont pull itself up a hill. Runs fine but just comes to a stop when trying to go up a hill. Maby the ground drive belt is slipping????

Sounds like your drive belt is slipping alright. Need to tighten your clutch rod. One end of rod adjust. Have someone help you, move the clutch petal and your helper watch and see rod moves.

The mower can not go up a hill. It does not quit running just doesn't move.

Hi,
The drive belt is too loose...you need to replace or tighten the belt...replacement is probably the best option...

Craftsman lawn tractor mower, automatic,917.273621, transmission will not pull mower up a slight hill. richard swint drive/motion belt seems normal,

The belt is probably slipping because it is not tight enough. look by the belt, inside there is a little spring, you may half to tighten it.
