SOURCE: ec12 hitachi air compressor will not build

most likely the the reed valves are stuck or miss aligned. Worse case senerio your piston seal blew causing this not to build pressure. Read manual on how to disassemble head. to remove should be 4 bolts and your copper line, just be careful of the reed valve plates, they are thin steel that sit into the head. Put back the same way you took it apart.

SOURCE: I got a used Hitachi ec12 compressor, it doesn't start.

1.Check the motor first. You can readily see if it's
burned or not. Run a megger test on the motor.
Test run the motor without the compressor.
2. If, it does not run, have it checked at the motor
rewinding shop.
3. Once it is okey, remount the motor, and start it up.

My EC12 will start up and hold air, after use the unit will not recycle on. Is this the regulator?

No, this would be the pressure switch. One pipe or small line to the tank, with power cord coming in and cord to motor. It is adjustable so try reducing tension on the spring first. If still no change replace pressure switch.

Pressure in tanks is fine, but when i go to inflate a tire for example I get a burst of pressure and the regulating indicator drops to zero with just a trickle of air, no volume or pressure....

Over time water and debris will enter the regulator and cause problems. Easy to fix however. Drain air from tank and turn pressure control knob out to relieve pressure on the internal spring. Open the regulator and clean and lube the internal parts (use silicone paste lube on rubber parts). Some regulators have a small nut on the rear that should be remove to clean small piston. If parts are rusted beyond usefulness, replace with generic regulator that will fit into space. Good luck

Ec12. Runs fine. Tanks fill fine. Just run out of air when using large volume items. i. e. framing nailer, filling tires. Like its taking too long for air to get from tank to end of hose. Almost like there...

You are correct in suspecting the regulator. Easy fix however. Remove the safety pop valve and install a tee fitting. Reinstall the safety on one port and install a quick-connect fitting on the other port. Now you will have access to full tank pressure when you need full power. In the process of regulating pressure, the 1/4 inch port size adjustable regulator will restrict the air volume. A 3/8 port size (larger air regulator ) is less volume restricting however more expensive. You can install a 3/8 port size regulator on your compressor in place of the small one installed now. Other possible trouble areas are too small inside diameter air hose , too long of a hose and air hose that has inner liner torn and is restricting airflow. Good luck

Regulator was replaced, but the same pressure is coming out as is on the main gauge. It is about 130psi

If you are getting the same pressure on the outlet side of the regulator as you have in the tank, regardless of where you set the regulator knob, it's possible you have the regulator on backwards. The inlet and outlet on the regulator are on opposing sided and the third hole is for the output gage. Try turning the regulator around. If that doesn't fix the problem, it is possible you got a bad replacement.

My hitachi EC12 compressor starts up and fills the two tanks. When I connect my hose, the pressure in one tank drops to zero, then goes back up to about 60 psi, then very slowly builds back up to max...

how do you know one tank drops to zero unless you have a pressure gauge on both tanks sounds unlikely unless you are looking at the gauge on the pressure regulator

The air tanks fill with air, but the pressure

The regulator sounds like it is cranked closed. Try slowly operating the adjusting knob in the opposite direction. As the valve moves, you should see the pressure rise on your gauge (it probably does work).
Hope this helps....now go make something!

No air pressure at the hose

It sounds like you have trouble with your pressure regulator. Make sure that the knob for the regulator is turned clockwise to increase pressure. If this doesn't work, you may need to replace the regulator.
