Why will my computer not start anymore?

Some weeks ago I updated this computer allright with the latest updates. I just tried to start it up again but I nolonger succeed. I hear the fan for a few seconds but then it stops even before going into POST. It is not the powersupply which I already exchanged. I disconnected all internal device and als left out all the memory, but it will never continue to go into the BIOS. What happened? And... what can be done about it?

Hard to diagnose without the machine in front of me. You say you updated this computer with the latest updates...was there by chance a Bios update in the mix? This behavior can be sparked by a failed bios update/successful update with a bad file/turned off mid update.

If there is more than one memory module, try removing them one at a time and testing that way...that will help eliminate ram as a suspect.

My expectation is that your motherboard is shot...either by a failed BIOS update or just unlucky timing of it happening following whatever updates were ran. Once you've eliminated power supply and RAM, its the most likely culprit. Unless you were heavily over clocking CPU's don't generally fail that catastrophically. Hope that helps and Good luck!

Testimonial: "Thank you much for your suggestions. No, there were no BIOS updates; I meant only the 'standard' Windows updates. As said I changes/tested the power supply and memory; there was nothing wrong, so I also suspected the motherboard. By now, I have given away this CPU to someone who I hope can find the problem and will be happy with it. Case can be closed!"

Try to use an external Speakers first if that works that means that the Internal Speakers is non functional. Update device driver and flash latest BIOS that we can download at support.dell.com then enter your service tag for proper device driver for your system

I purchased this useless Sony Dream Machine ICFCL75I 5 months ago. First time the freezing problem happened within a month after the purchase. Then machine hangs and thus cause the alarm not to go off....

Have the same issue and this works for me, Unplug the unit and plug it back in at least once a week. I've been doing this for over a year and a half and it hasn't froze up on me. This was an expensive piece of ****, because of this I won't buy Sony again.

Failure to reboot after a Software update.

Hi stuart,
It sounds like you either may have a corrupt system or a faulty hard drive. Try reinstalling OSX with the system discs that came with the computer. You can still keep everything if choose the "Archive and install" option.
If this doesn't help, then I'd say the hard drive may have seen its last days.
