I'd go to the junction of the linkage and the transmission and check from there. The transmission will have a lever or some sort of protrusion connecting to the linkage. See if you can move the lever/protrusion by hand, even if you have to disconnect it from the linkage. If you can move it, try to find neutral and reattach the linkage and adjust it so it corrresponds to the indicator on the shifter. If you can't move the lever/protrusion it's internal to the transmission and you are out of luck unless you're up to cracking open the transmission.

Check the brake on the right hand side... they tend to lock up causing your issue

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

The neutral lite wont stay on , the foot lever is not allowing it to go to neutral

The neutral light won't stay on because the gearbox isn't in neutral. try rocking the bike backwards and forwards, kick the gears down as many time as you can (at least 6) and then try moving the gear lever up one until the bike moves freely backwards and forwards. Your bike should then start. It would be easier to identify any problems if you let us know the make and model of the bike.

2002 Kawasaki VN 750 Vulcan will not shift

Hi, Jose and the usual suspects are:
1. Improper clutch adjustment or not disengaging.
2. Bent shift shaft.
3. Shift fork bent or seized.
4. Gear seized on the shaft.
5. Gear positioning lever binding.
6. Shift return springs weak or broken.
7. Shift return spring pin loose
8. Shift mechanism arm spring is broken.
9. Shift mechanism arm is broken.
10. Shift drum is broken.
11. Shift lever loose on the shift shaft.

I was backing up in a driveway one cold night, and as i tried to shift into drive it stuck on drive 3. I tried to move it back and it just wouldn't budge. I pulled infront of my boyfriends house and tried...

You may be able to stop and start the car in neutral using the parking brake. I'm not sure on the 2004. I would check the linkage and linkage cable first. It may be a much easier fix than you think. What gear does the indicator show you and is the shifter on the floor or on the column? I would still try to have someone go under the car and see if they can move the linkage manually to park.

Speed Triple fell at about 10 MPH on the right side and slightly bent the throttle handle bar at the tip. Its still driveable, but as i increase the throttle in any gear, it revs high but speed does not...

Put the bike up on blocks to roll wheels freely in neutral. do they turn freely? If not, check for stuck brakes, maybe rotors or pads. Then remove the plugs, clutch lever released, put in in a high gear and roll it around to see if this is rotating your pistons up and down. This tests clutch slippage. if you can roll the bike around. You pull the plugs so that the engine compression does not lock up the rear wheel. An engine that revs up like that and does not speed up the bike is usually either a sticking brake or a slipping clutch. Let me know what you find, and we'll narrow this down so you can get it fixed.

Gear stuck on reverse. Put on drive gear still in

Have your gearbox checked. Stucked up issue,
is often caused by a worn out part, (Bearing, or
bushing, or geartrain.

Transaxle locked in gear won't roll freely in neutral

Sounds like the pins in your brake caliper have gotten dirty and/or rusty and are not releasing all the way. When I had my shop, we found a lot of these and I or my mechanics pulled and cleaned them then took a drill 1/64th larger than the pin and ran it through the holes in the caliper, NO MORE PROBLEMS!
Check your tire pressures, too, if they are low it will be difficult to roll.

86 fiero gt: 4spd-acts like neutral in all 4 gears

If you're not experiencing a burning smell, it's most likely a clutch adjustment. The clutch appears to remain partially engaged and without adjustment, will eventually burn out. A symptom of this would be the RPM's being higher than normal when shifting.
