Question about Whirlpool GEW9868K Electric Dryer

1 Answer

What is wrong with my dryer?

Dryer has been working good. It has finished a load of clothes and I started a new load and the machine does not start, like no power. I checked the power box fuse and all seemed to be OK. Pushing all the buttons on the dryer made no difference, and was sure the door was closed. After it sits for awhile it will come right back up like nothing I wrong. I changed the thermal cutoff fuse and thermostat, but it dd not repair the problem. Any suggestions?

Check the vent line (when it is working) for for good air flow...residual heat may be tripping the overheat safety.

SOURCE: dryer will not start

slats, electric dryer, you want to check the thermal fuse first. Remove the lower panel on the dryer, push in on the two clips each side and it will pull off. Remove the vent screen on the inside. Remove the quarter inch screws holding the blower wheel cover on. To the right of the blower wheel on the housing you will see a white fuse top side. Two wires going to it. You can ohm it out or jump it temp. to see if the dryer starts. Also make sure the door switch is operating. Check the attachment. Catriver..post back

Water building up during the dry cycle and clothes getting wetter

1) Make sure wash cycle is 100% finished (sometimes dryer will start before - usu on synthetic cycle & allows water to continue flowing in)

2) Manually start the dry cycle after you ensure wash cycle is finished and push in the wash cycle button.

Hope that helps! If not, you may need a new control module (I did - hope you don't!)

Our fridgidaire gallery dryer squeals very loud for about the first 5 minutes of being on then quietly finishes it's job. It does this with each new load.

You could have a belt that is slipping on the heavy load of clothes when you first start the dryer, if so you may need to replace your belt.
Your problem sounds like drum rollers is in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Whirlpool Electric dryer won't start

Your problem sounds like it could be a broken belt, faulty motor, or maybe the belt has slipped off of the motor or idler arm pulley.

You can try this first:
Uplug the dryer, reach inside and try to turn the drum 1/4 to 1/2 turn, the plug the dryer back in, and push the start button. Sometimes motors will get dead zones in them and this will move it from that zone.

If you attempt the repair, and if you have a front loading machine, you would remove the front of the machine, this will expose the drum and belt, you can now check the belt to see if it is ok. If it is ok, then you can remove the drum and belt and this will expose the motor, idler arm with pulley and drum rollers.
While you have the drum out of there it is a good time to check the condition of the drum rollers to see if they have flat spots on them, if they do have flat spots on them, then need to be replaced. If not then I recommend that you lubricate them at the shaft with a good grade of Machine Oil such as 3 in One oil. This will save problems later.
Good luck,
I hope this helps you

Wash machine sometimes gets stuck on rinse cycle & dryer not dry

Sounds like the drain hose for the washer is too far down in the stand pipe at the wall causing a siphon effect, try raising drain hose a little. The dryer sounds like the vent line from back of dryer too wall is pinched causing an air flow obstruction. Hope this helps.

Why wont my machine start drying?

I called Whirlpool on 08706008989. The machine can only dry half a load of washing at a time. At the end of the washing cycle, the Programme dial should be at either the sun or half sun symbol. Remove half the washing, set the drying time via the drying time dial and press the 1/2 Load Dryer button - Voila dry clothes!
