Alternator could be bad or there's a short in the electrical system.

I don't have a lot of experience in this field, but my car had that problem once and it was the battery's fault, it had gotten bad and the alternator had to work to hard to keep up cause it did not get much from the battery. battery is the first thing I would check

big error that, can throw acid in the eyes, as battery explodes, if you do it wrong, so easy, lucky you did it on the safe side of fuse.?

pure random luck that, next time read the FSM before working electrics. every page tells you to pull then NEG battery lug first.
and the answer is, its shorted.
you never said the exact fuse, so i guess.
88 is very very old car,... docs hard to find.
here is the rules on electrics.
1: the fuse has a hot side, (Battery plus)
2: the fuse has a load side, (only you know this) and is shorted.

that's it, find the short by disconnecting the loads,
the fuse is expensive so I disonnect them all then add them back 1 by one till boom.
only takes 2 fuse, 1 to find it and 1 to drive after fixed.
do not fall trap to the dark side, of the force and use a jumper
for a fuse or you will have a fire, or battery acid in you face.
seen both so many times, as I yell to the guy, hey dont do that.... oops too late. NOOBS do get hurt all the time. even when warned
the battery is to be respected.
it can produces about 5000 watts of energy.
never ever, short this battery,

next post a , schematic, (close)
to post.

It will get hot in a very short period of time. Could you have set the time for a few seconds instead of a few minutes? Thermal issues normally take the unit out until replaced. They are one shot thermal protect devices.

I would start by checking the fluid to make sure it's at the proper level, Then check to see if the thermostat is opening like it should. If you have good flow and you get heat inside the car but the car still overheats I think I'd be checking for blown head gaskets and head warp.

My Fisher&Paykel Dryer gets really hot on the top and upper left back when only running for a short period of time. what is the problem?

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

If you have already cleaned the vent then the problem is with the Thermal fuse. When the thermal fuse goes bad it cannot be reset and replacing it is recommended repair. It is located on the blower wheel housing inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct. You can test it for continuity before replacing. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

The post on the back of the alternator should`read 14 volts when running. You should get very close to the same reading at the battery posts (when the rear alternator post is hooked up to the harness). If you get any significantly different reading at either location, disconnect the harness from the back of the alternator and run a 4 gauge wire from the alternator to the positive post of the battery and see if you still have a 'hot'. noisy alternator. My guess is that the wiring in the harness is shorted somewhere.

Please help. I have a 96 toyota camry le that keeps dying on me. At first the battery light came on and then shortly after the car died. We had the alternator tested and it was bad so we put a new one in....

You need to get someone who knows how to use a Multimeter. It is a device that registers how much voltage, is present at your battery when your alternator is charging. Anyone can use one of these tools and they are cheap to buy, just add some AA batteries. Put the negative lead on the negative battery terminal and the positive lead on the positibe battery terminal, set the device to read Voltage and read the display that tells you how much voltage is present when the car is off, then on, and when you turn on different accessories like head lights, AC, etc. your alternator should produce more Voltage with each new thing you turn on. You will see this voltage go up as you read the multimeter on the battery terminals. If you don't see the Voltage go up the alternator is bad.

Now, likely a new alternator should be good, and you said you had the batter tested, hopefully they knew what they were doing. Lastly, I would unhook the aftermarket stereo for a week or two and see if that solves the problem. Also you should check all connections to the battery and to the alternator to make sure there isn't anything loose, that was the problem on my car, the alternator conector was loose and wiggeling and caused the battery light to come on intermittently. Hope this helps you out!!!
