Just follow the instructions as per the manual. The way they advise you to set up the connections is the only way to do that procedure. If you mix up Polarity, you can BURN out a coil or pop a speaker. Do as they suggested in the manual. READ IT!

Carver TFM 35 amp what is the best way to hook it to a Marantz AV8003 pre app

No. You should use the line(or preamp output) to the Carver input. The only way you could use the tape output is if the Carver has input volume controls.

How to hook up a Marantz AZ8003 pre amp to a carver TFM 35 a.m.

Please see my last few comments on the same issue. If you can't find it, please let me know. BTW, Marantz does not show the AZ8003 to be a valid model.

One side not working

Hello,

the 2230 is a fine unit! There could be several things causing this problem, more than likely it could be dirty front controls which will require cleaning. It could be more serious problems such as pre-amp or main amp failures, dried up output coupling cap for the right channel. I would recommend having the unit serviced. These older vintage Marantz units are really special and deserve proper attention.

Thanks

Either chanell cuts out randomly. It is not over heating, and does'nt happen all the time. Otherwise sounds great. Marantz 2230. thanks in advance. Steve

Intermittent problems are no fun to troubleshoot because you have to force it to fail or wait for it to show the problem. It sounds like it could be a thermal problem or a cold solder connection. Do you hear the sound through the headphone jack on the receiver when the speakers blank out? If so your pre amp section is working, and it is in the power amp section. If not I would first use a spray contact cleaner on the switches and rheostats. Click on the link below for Cleaner.

Second, wait until the unit exhibits the problem then use a freeze spray selectively spraying parts of the board and components until the sound returns. You can use a heat gun sparingly to heat parts of the circuit to try to force it to fail. If you selectively freeze spray the board and sound returns you need to inspect the board for broken traces and touch up solder connections, which could be cold and faulty. If you spray a component and the sound is restored it could be a bad component, and it should be inspected. Click on the link below for freeze spray.

Manual too confusing

The easiest way to think of your equipment is that in it's name is it's function; it "receives" signals. Then sends them out through the speakers. There are only a few exceptions in that there may additional outputs depending on the design...they may be for video or external amplifiers.
All of your components you would like to connect to the receiver will have output connections. Power off all components. Connect those to the labeled input on the receiver. If a component that you are connecting has both audio AND video such as a DVD player or TV, both connections must be made to the same input section to be able to use them simultaneously.

Right side speaker input don't work

There are a number of possibilities that can cause this. Since you smelled some burning, I would suspect that the output transistors on the right side have shorted. This can sometimes cause a resistor to burn before that section is turned off. This is a relatively simple repair for anyone familiar with those units. I have rebuilt a number of these over the years and can tell you that the repair is worth the expense. You can figure on $25-$40 in parts plus the local labor rate for the total cost.

If you have a multimeter and can solder, you may be able to repair this. This is not the easiest unit to access however, so if you are not experienced, I would not start here.

Keep me posted.
