Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver
If you are using an external amp, "fixed" is what you will see on the Yamaha's display when you want to change the volume. If you are using the power of the Yamaha's Zone 2 outputs, you need to go into the "Menu" then "Manual Settings" then "Options or Zone 2" and set it for "Int" That will solve your problem.

time to reset the microprocessor. See page 87 in manual.
1) switch off the unit using the main unit's power operation (small power button)
2) hold the PURE DIRECT button and DIRECT button at same time and turn the main unit's power operation on.
3) wait for entire display to flash in 1 second intervals
now the speakers need to be set up again but zone 2 will be working. i suspect a power surge causes the microprocesser to be corrupted. i put a power surge protector and have not had problems (lately).

Get into the receiver "Main Menu" toggle to "options" or "zone control", right click and you should be able to switch it from "Fixed" to "Variable" If you still have an issue, post a comment and I will help you further. Hope this helps. (chances are it lost power or took a spike, and reset zone 2)

PROBLEM: Zone 2 speaker settings are not available in "SET MENU".
CAUSE: "EXTRA SP ASSIGN" is set to a setting other than "ZONE2".
REMEDY: Set "EXTRA SP ASSIGN" to "ZONE2".
See Page 85

Testimonial: "Hi it certainly pointed me in the right direction. Thank you. A few more steps would have been useful and page number suggestion was not correct p33."
The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.
