You have a corrupt registry. The easiest thing to do is get out your Windows Cd and boot to it. Choose the option for a repair install and allow it to proceed. 30-45 minutes later, you will be back in business.

If you are more daring, you can use the recovery console to copy the 5 registry hives from the C:/windows/repair folder to the system32/config folder, but this will force re installation of some programs.

Either way, you will not lose data

HI dmanhd97,

Try this, restart your pc then press f8 continuously, this will take you to safe mode. then after that go to start>run> type in msconfig (windows xp) , and start>search> type in msconfig (windows 7)
this will open up the system configuration under the general tab
select the diagnostic start up then apply>ok>restart

Hope this helps,

Sony Vaio PCV-W30 uses sis 650_651_740 driver but on restart the graphics are horrible. If I uninstall;then re-install, the graphics work well - until another restart. No new drivers for 7 on their site,...

Have you tried simply running a windows update to make sure you have the most current drivers available that way? I have found the preloaded driver database is massive, but usually whatever the initial install misses the update picks up. Hope this helps.

My sony vaio vgc-js160j has a blue screen, shutdown and then restarts

When booting press F8,or your button to get to the Screen that has Safe Mode etc on it..then select 'Disable Automatic Restart on System Error'

Maybe it might be a Memory Fault or a Startup Program causing this BsoD.

You might then try to run your PC in Safe mode and look for Programs you installed recently.

Hope this helps

Your operating system may be corrupt. Please try the following:

Try hitting the F8 key repetedly at boot to see if it goes into the preboot menu. If so, choose last known good config and try booting again. If not, you may want to grab your restore disk and perform a windows repair. Insert the CD in your drive and boot to it. Choose the option to repair your windows installation. This will fix windows without destroying your data
