Brand new Craftsman 19.5 HP Riding Mower Sputtering(Manual Trans)

Engine Starts fine and will mow ok and then starts sputttering, but usually does not quit. Will rev faster and slower and will do this under load or not. Last night, I did not have this problem. It also seems that now the engine will not rev up to speed even it the max position. The mower moves slower than it should on the 5-6 tran setting.

Also of note. The first trip on the mower out of the box so to speak, the engine starting sputtering after a couple of hours of mowing. When I looked at the mower, I noticed that one of the hoses was disconnected to the carb. I assume this was a vacuum hose on the side against the engine. I reconnected the hose and have had this problem ever since.

The hose you reconnected was probably for the air to the air filter. Check to see if while the hose was disconnected it pulled grass or dust into the air filter. Check the air filter, try running the mower without the filter. If it runs then replace or blow out the air filter. Hope this helps.

Mower dies after running for a few minutes

It sounds like the carburetor is running out of fuel.First make sure the tank is full then loosen or remove the gas cap when it starts sputtering to see if that corrects the problem. Then with engine off remove the fuel line that goes from the tank to the fuel pump, hold it low and see if any fuel flows out of it,if not lightly blow air backwards to the tank,(with fuel cap off),then see if the line is plugged. Next remove the fuel line that goes to carburetor from the fuel pump, crank the engine and see if any fuel flows,if so the carburetor should be cleaned by removing it and disassembling it.

Craftsman 19.5 riding mower starts runs quits no power

When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem

Sputtering Mower

It might not be disengaging the mower deck all the way off. I had this problem on an older model.
