Agree with first answer that a cover is not required. One consideration is drag- an uncovered boat has significantly more aerodynamic drag than a boat with a well-fitted cover- maybe equivalent to pulling an extra 1000 lb for a 3000 ski boat. This may not be a big deal on a small boat like 4.4meter.

Agreed, Especially if there is equipment up in the airflow (console, ski/tow rack, etc). One major problem is to acquire a "well-fitted" cover. Factory produced(boat manufacturer) usually fit the best. After market are notoriously ill-fitting. A loose cover that flaps in the airflow can be worse than no cover and may self destruct on the first trip.

True that. BTW - I had a cover made that comes down over the sides and secures with a drawstring, frons and rear straps- I can leave the side straps off while trailering - man is it easier to put on and off than my original snap-on cover.

I do not know the rules of your state but I do not know any that require a cover. The bout should be strapped down to the trailer and anything that can blow out should be removed. I followed a boat the other day that had a hatch unfastened. Round things were blowing out as the lid flopped in the wind. I stopped him, then went back to see what came out. He will be unhappy when he gets on the water and finds he does not have any leader line left.

SOURCE: I just bought a new boat and need to buy a boat

Never buy a trailer with the same capacity as the weight of your boat! This can be very dangerous! Instead, make sure the trailer's capacity is at least twice that of the weight of the boat, all your gear, and the boat's motor.

Can you drive a SUV towing a boat with 2 passengers ?

if the passengers are using the seat belts and are inside the car-- yes
there can be no one in the boat being towed and all items ( cooler , rods , seats etc) have to be restrained with a device like a cargo net
remember that there may also be speed restraints on towed vehicles

Can we safely tow a 206tonne boat. The ute is a diesel

not enough information
to tow anything , there are regulated engine power requirements , braking capacity, electric break away brakes on the trailer, weight on the tow bar, boat width, boat length
All the requirement can be found at the vehicle registry office or main roads department

I just bought a new boat and need to buy a boat trailer. Should I buy a boat trailer with the weight capacity of my new boat, or do I need to make sure it can tow more than that just in case?

First of all you should know the height, length, width, and weight of your trailer, which is important and it will make it possible for you to transport your boat. Or if you want you can hire a boat transport services, by taking reference from the Internet or you may ask your friends or relatives if they had ever shipped a boat from transporters, because a boat delivery company had an experience in transporting boats and yacht safely.

What's the towing capacity for dodge caravan 2000? can't seem to find it on the net...

I've got an 05 model with the 3.3 and given what I know I wouldn't pull anything over 2k lbs a small utility trailer with a riding mower or a small 14-16 ft boat or wave runner would be the extent of it without having a heavy duty transmission, a seperate trans fluid cooler, and an elec braking device

Replace an actuator on my boat trailer.

You may be able to tow without the surge brakes. A lot depends on the weight of the tow vehicle and its stopping ability. The trailer brakes may be leaking on the trailer brake shoes. This may cause the linings to swell and lock up.

You can make the brakes inoperative by putting a bolt through the moving parts and converting it to a solid tonque. There may be legal regulations about operating it on a highway without the safety device.
Not much is inspected in my area, but your insurance may be void if you have an accident.

What is the towing capacity of a 2004 Solara?

Not trying to sound like dodging the question but, If it's not written in your owners manual, your best bet is to call local toyota dealer & ask to be sure. Wouldn't want to guess on that & end up blowing your transmission or engine.

Float on style trailers are designed with immersions depths and vertical guides to allow the boat to be driven onto the trailer. But not at full throttle, only enough power to move the boat over the bottom rollers/guides. Some trailers are designed to have the boat winched onto the trailer. For this style, you drive to boat to a starting point and then use the winch to pull the boat the remaining distance. These sometimes have a release mechanism and hinge/pivot point to allow the back of the trailer to drop below the normal towing position to make recovery easier. As the boat is winched into position, the weight of the boat will cause the trailor to pivot and return to the towing position.
