Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Using the paper source of the cassette, the paper gets jammed in the rear area. If I switch the paper source to the auto fed, it works fine. Any ideas where to look for a foreign object (eg., a torn off piece of paper or something) or what to do? Kindly appreciated. Nancy
Nancy it may not even be visible to the eye but nast enough to cause the problem.
Get a piec of card, usually that stiff card used for posters cut it to A4 unles it is that size and try dfeeding it through the paper source help it a bit with a bit of a push and even a pull onece it shows, do this several; times until it goes through by itself. Then retry the papoer and see if that has removed the offender

Tips for a great answer:

Clearing credit card-sized paper jammed inside the printer
Credit card-sized and 4" x 6" sized paper must be loaded properly. If this media is not loaded properly, it will feed into the printer and will not exit. Credit card-sized paper should only be loaded in the ASF and in portrait orientation. 4" x 6" sized paper can be loaded in the ASF or cassette. But must be loaded portrait orientation.
If credit card-sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the ASF and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.
