Question about Samsung LN55C650 TV

Open Question

Ln55c650 no power

Basically the tv won't start I thought it was like my older tv with the capacitors but all of them seem to be fine when I opened the back. Any other ideas why the power would just shut off?

SOURCE: Samsung LN55C650 shut down; won't come back on again!

Someone has to open the set and look first at the power supply--if you are not able to do that consider having a shop look at the set.

SOURCE: Samsung TV won't turn on. Red light is solid, won't blink when pressed. All capacitors seem fine (none swollen or vented).

That model is covered under a class actions lawsuit settlement over bad power supply boards. You need to contact Samsung about this and get a warranty claim started, even if the original warranty is over the settlement terms will cover parts and labor. To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

TV won't power up, but the capacitors seem fine....

Hello,
The "rust" you are seeing is actually dried chemical fro the inside of the capacitor which does indicate the capacitors have bulged and blown. Even one or two bad capacitors will keep the power supply from starting up correctly. You need to replace them and the power board should be as good as new. Remember that when you replace them that they all need to be replaced not just the ones with visible bulging tops. The reason why you need to replace them all is two fold. First when some go out it puts a strain on the others and second you down want to have to keep opening the tv to replace them a few at a time every few months when they keep failing. If you need information on the capacitors to replace here is a link to capacitor information on the Digital Lifestyles models.

I had the same issue occur on my ln55c650 (screen flickering, not the actual image but the front lights flashed which was too distracting) and they had to replace the power supply pc-board. Seems some issue with power module in the TV rather than the side panels. Luckily for me, TV was still in warranty.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.
