Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera

Camera not turning off and when ON,always in picture preview mode

My Canon S3IS suddenly started behaving funny on one fine day.

Problem # 1 > Camera is not turning off at all.
Problem # 2 > When Camera is on, it stays always in the picture preview mode and cannot take any pictures.

Workarond available for Problem # 2 > If I switch on the MOVIE Mode, the go back to PHOTO mode and then I am able to take photos. But even with this, the camera does not switches off at all and the only ways is to take the battery out.

Appreciate any solutions to rectify this issue.

Thanks in advance

Canon 60D playback images turning up black

Did you switch to Tv (shutter mode) and took pictures for several seconds? like in the dark? Because saving the picture can take as long as the shutter time was.
Before panic. (Actually you never should panic) check your camera in automatic mode. And make sure you did not select any power save action, that puts your display on dark while shooting.
But always be sure your battery is charged and check its capacity. In the menu yo can check under the wrench symbol, when you select Battery info. Page 268 of the manual.
Working with a bad battery can damage the camera in the end.

I hit something on my camera that each time I take a picture, the preview is a tiny picture in the upper left screen and there are yellow outlines around areas of the picture and in the lower right corner,...

when you are in the playback mode, you can use the zoom function (as you use it when you take a picture), this will zoom into the image you took.

the yellow frame show you where you are in the full image.

My Canon S3IS is about 4 years old. It used to

You need to check your ISO setting and the picture quality you have your camera set to. It should be at the maximum megapixels and fine quality and the ISO should be below 800 or even 400.

Try to reformat your internal memory, and then turn On the camera and use the auto mode or smart scene mode. Take a two pictures on a same subject then review the pictures after, now if the two pictures has lines on it and it has a pink in colors it means that the lens of the camera is defective that`s why it will not take a good picture. Canon S3IS freezes when connected to the computer

1)You need to unplug the camera, turn it off. Then plug it back in, turn it on, and wait. If nothing comes up, go to "My Computer" and you should see the camera icon there. Double Click it and there you are.

2)Take your camera to a friends computer, plug it in if it works, problem is your computer.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

For both of you, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

A630 clicks and wont take picture. Stays in preview mode.

Do you mean you are expecting it to show the photo that you just took for a few seconds before it goes back to preview mode? There's a menu setting which I think is called "Picture Review" and you can set it for something like 0, 2 seconds, 5 seconds, something like that.

I hope that was it.
