Question about Craftsman 3 gal. Air Compressor, 1.5 hp, Horizontal k

1 Answer

No power I have a 3 HP craftsman air compressor . The motor is not sufficiently strong enough to turn compressor. I have checked the wiring with a megameter and checked to ground. Everything seems normal. I have replaced the start capacitor and checked the run capacitor which tests out ok. When I run the motor I can hold the pully and keep it from turning, I checked the wireing diaghram and it appears that the correct wires are at the correct terminals. Can anyone give me some possible solution (besides tossing the motor).

did you just get this compressor --- make sure the motor is setup for either 110 or 220 depending what your plugged into. sounds like a 220 motor setup to a 110 supply.Otherwise, you will have to toss the motor ( i hope the pulley isnt loose at the motor shaft )

I think you have a bad phase or you are not getting the correct volts going in try switching the hot wires red to black and black to red and check each set of windings for continuity

Air compressor issue

Sounds to me like a power issue, is your machine a single or 3 phase? Do you have an extension lead fitted to it? As the pressure builds, the motor needs more juice to turn it, if the power source isnt powerful enough then the motor will slow down, you might need to check that before looking at the compressor itself.

Problem with the craftsman 30 gal compressor 6 hp vertical oil free. motor or compressor will not engage, when turned motor starts for a second and sound slow then pops the breaker

sounds like you are not getting enough voltage to run the compressor if you are using an extension cord check your manual to see what gauge it should be depending on how long it is if you are plugged into a wall outlet then is the compressor the only thing that is running on the circuit if some thing else is running then you may be overloading the circuit.

I have craftsmen 7gal 1 hp-looks like very low oil level and no motor starts-just momentarily noise and stops?

1.If it has a low oil level, have it refilled to proper level,
and restart.
2.If it does not start. Isolate the motor from the
compressor, by removing the v-belt.
3. In this manner, we will know where's the trouble.
4. Put power to the motor, and have it started.
5. If the motor start, then it is okey. If the motor
just groan and does not start, check the starting
capacitor, it may need replacement.
6. Check the compressor if it can be turned (one to
two full turns). If it can turned, then, it is okey.
Otherwise, check the compressor piston rings.
It may need to be replaced.
7. Reassemble your compressor and replace the
v-belts.
8. Then, you can plug in to the nearest power outlet
and start the compressor.

Leaks air at the pressure switch

start your compressor and let it buid up pressure to turn off. then unplug from power.lossen the fill tube that goes from the pump to the tank. when you loosen it. if it leaks air then your check valve is bad and will have to be replaced.

Does this trip on pressure or is it a breaker tripping? If you took off the intake then there is no pressure build up, thus it wouldn't trip the pressure switch. But would at the same time add a load to the motor. First check and make sure motor is wired properly, then check that pressure switch is wired properly and is adjusted to the right pressure. I don't believe that the intake tube would be clogged, it's a straight hole into the tank. But could be a possibility.
