On all Panasonic Toughbook models, if the Touchpad driver is
properly installed then you can disable the "TAPPING" feature.
Check under device manager. If the driver says PS2 Mouse,
then you need to locate your touchpad driver. Otherwise
locate the advanced setting under MOUSE under the control
panel and find "TAPPING" and un-check to disable feature.
Good Luck!

Hp laptop synaptics touchpad light comes on and shuts off pointer

Had this problem before, very annoying! On mine the idea was double tap to disable the track pad and then double tap again to activate it... In reality tapping rapidly in the area around the LED until the LED shut off seemed to work.

In short; double tap the LED to reactivate the track pad. If that doesn't work tap several times in quick succession until the LED turns off.

Good luck!

How do I disabled the touch pad and only use an external mouse and the keyboard on the lap top?

You do not have to actually disable the touch pad on this laptop to use an "external" mouse. Just plug in your mouse and it will install the drivers if needed and viola, your good to go. If you insist on disabling your touch pad however, you can do that by double tapping the top left hand corner, when you do this correctly, a little orange light will show and the screen will show a notification the the touch pad is disabled. To enable the pad back on, just repeat the same step you used to disable, and the on screen notification will indicate the touch pad is enabled!

How can deactivate the pad?i dont want to click with a double touch...thanks

To turn the TouchPad on/off, quickly double-tap the TouchPad off indicator (the yellow LED) at the left top corner. If the touchpad is disabled it is indicated by a yellow LED on upper left corner of the touchpad and when the TouchPad is active, the light is off.
This would disable the touchpad completely. Also, if you wish to disable just the double-click through double-tap, you can do this by going to the mouse/touchpad options from the control panel.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

How do you turn off the touch pad

Some notebook users find the touch pad annoying because at times, while typing fast, their thumbs accidentally brush up against the touchpad. This is frustrating because the mouse cursor jumps to a random location on the screen and can cause undesirable things.

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

How do I disable touch pad when using a mouse? ASUS K50IJ Win7 64 bit

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

Alternatively, you can permanently disable the touchpad of your laptop by clicking the "Disable Device" in the Touch Pad setting. Advanced users can disable the touchpad from the BIOS setup [press F2 when the computer is booting to enter BIOS settings]

Unfortunately, there are no keyboard shortcuts to enable/disable Touchpad movement or tapping. You can however drag the Mouse icon from the control panel to your Quick launch bar for quick access.

If that sounds too much effort, you may consider adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad. This can be accessed from the Touch Pad tab of our mouse properties. Choose a low setting.

How do you highlight with a touchpad

With most touchpads you hold down the left mouse button to select then move the cursor with the other hand by pressing a finger on the touchpad and dragging it. Be sure your touch pad is not disabled - usually a button near it with an indicator LED.

Gateway laptop running Vista suddenly developed an issue with the mouse pad.... double click doesn't respond. However the touch pad works to move the mouse

Hi there,
I have just had this problem with an Acer laptop running on Vista Home. When I double clicked on the actual pad itself rather than the bottons, it wasn't recognising it at all. Wouldn't scroll down or select a folder etc, just if I double clicked on the actual pad. Everything else worked OK.
I tried the solutions above but they didn't work.
Turns out it's the 'Tapping' function that needs to be enabled. Go to Start > Contol Panel > Hardware > Mouse > Device Settings > Then it says devices: and lists what pad hardware you have (mine is Synaptics Touchpad V7.2.
Under the box are 3 buttons Enable, Disable and Settings, presuming yours is enabled go to Settings > Tapping > Enable Tapping. Hey Presto! :-)

How do I disable double-click on an HP Pavilion dv4 touchpad?

Hi there Dublin. I recently bought a HP laptop myself, and I believe I can help your situation, or at least I hope I can. Here's what you do: Access your Control Panel>Click Mouse>Click Device Settings>Click Settings> Click Tapping> Click Disable Tapping. That should do the trick. You are not disabling your touch-pad, just the double-clicking that is associated with it. Drove me nuts for about a day, 'til I figured it out..Hope it worked for your notebook.
