I have a Proscan 40 inch 1080P LCDTV (40LD45Q), but when I connect my computer to it, (GTX 260) with DVI-HDMI cable, it says the native resolution is 1366x768. Is Proscan lying that this TV is 1080P?

You can attempt to force 1080p to the TV by unchecking the box "hide modes this monitor cannot display" in the display adapter propteries, then try to select 1920 by 1080p, 60hz, 32 bit color, and see what happens. Post back what your findings are.

I want ot change my LG television Model 47LH40 to 1080p using my LG remote

1080p video resolution can only be achieved by a Blu-ray Disc. Satellite TV, broadcast TV, cable TV do not actually send out 1080p resolution. So unless you are using a Blu-ray movie, you will not be viewing 1080p. Your HDTV has a NATIVE screen resolution and the TV will SCALE all incoming video to its native resolution. Most people cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080i. 1080p signal sources are slightly sharper. But if you have a HDTV that is 1080p capable and you give it a 1080p source (Blu-ray Disc) and use a HDMI cable to connect, you will get 1080p, you do not have to change the HDTV as it will automatically display 1080p.

How do you change the resolution? I'm on 1280x720p I want to go to 1080p max res

first you need to be connected from the video source, to the tv with an HDMI cable. Then going thru the menu promts, find the section that lets you change the res, will also ask you for widescreen or standard.

I have a 738 - 73" and I cannot set it to 1080p (only 1080i). What is my problem?

If you are referring to the signal information displayed on the screen, it is only detailing only what the TV is receiving. By that I am referring to the signal the cable box or DVD player is sending to it. You need to make the 1080p adjustment on the HDMI device (PS3, DirecTV box, etc).

The display of the TV is by default 1080p all the time. This is the native format for the TV display. All signals coming into the TV (even the Wii or VCR) are upscaled to this format in order for them to be displayed.

I hope this was helpful, best wishes.

I connected the cable box to my LG tv with new HDMI cables and the picture is noticeable smaller than the size of the screen. Before, I had the cable from the wall connected directly to the tv and the...

Your cable box and TV are set to different resolutions. Check the setup on both and make sure everything is the same (ie 720p to 720p or 1080p to 1080p) Make sure your cable box can give you 1080p (Nice set, BTW!!). HDMI is supposed to automatically take care of the settings, but it does not hurt to double-check.

Depending on the manufacturer of the cable box, there may be screen setting for "letterbox" which should be selected.

Some TV channels, when redirected through a cable box, simply will not display full resolution (1080p) programming. Your cable TV provider can tell you which channels are displayed in high resolution.

Finally, make sure your cable provider gave you the correct box. Older boxes are not capable of providing 1080p resolution, and since you own a 1080p set, you deserve nothing less!

I cannot switch to 1080p on my Vizio. It is a full HD TV but will not do 1080p and I can't switch resolution off of 480p even with a Blu-Ray.

The resolution is not set at the TV, it is set by the video sources. The TV will detect the resolution and display what it is receiving.
1080P signal = 1080p display.
Does it do that on all sources?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 1080I AND 1080P AND WHICH ONE IS BETTER?

1080i vs 1080p - Similarities and Differences Between 1080i and 1080p
How 1080i and 1080p Are Both The Same and Different
1080i and 1080p are both High Definition display formats for HDTVs. 1080i and 1080p signals actually contain the same information. Both 1080i and 1080p represent a 1920x1080 pixel resolution (1,920 pixels across the screen by 1,080 pixels down the screen). The difference between 1080i and 1080p is in the way the signal is sent from a source component or displayed on an HDTV screen. In 1080i each frame of video is sent or displayed in alternative fields. The fields in 1080i are composed of 540 rows of pixels or lines of pixels running from the top to the bottom of the screen, with the odd fields displayed first and the even fields displayed second. Together, both fields create a full frame, made up of all 1,080 pixel rows or lines, every 30th of a second.
In 1080p, each frame of video is sent or displayed progressively. This means that both the odd and even fields (all 1,080 pixel rows or pixel lines) that make up the full frame are displayed together. This results in a smoother looking image, with less motion artifacts and jagged edges.
Differences Within 1080p 1080p can also be displayed (Depending on the video processing used) as a 1080p/60 (Most common), 1080p/30, or in 1080p/24 formats. 1080p/60 is essentially the same frame repeated twice every 30th of a second. (Enhanced video frame rate.) 1080p/30 is the same frame displayed once every 30th of a second. (Standard live or recorded video frame rate.) 1080p/24 is the same frame displayed every 24th of a second (Standard motion picture film frame rate.)

How do I change the resolution from 720p to 1080p

If your Sony TV is designed to display 1080P resolution - you don't need to do anything. It does it automatically synchronizing with appropriate 1080P signal source.
If source does not produce 1080P (because it can't or settings are wrong) TV won't display it.

I can't find where you can switch my tv to 1080p it just says 480p can you tell me how?

Hello,

There is no "switch", the TV displays that what you feed into it.

It is 1080p so:

If you are using a Blu-ray Player or PS3, you will need to go into the setup for whichever and set the output video to 1080p @ 24f or 25f or 30f depending on your preference and what the TV will display.

As soon as you feed the TV 1080p via HDMI or DVI or Component, the TV should automatically switch. You will notice the difference in picture quality too.

Thanks
