Hi,
This projector had a lamp rated at 2000 hours (normal) / 3000 hours (eco mode). It last shipped in August 2008. It is a 3000 lumen projector. It's a reasonable business class projector.
As a first step, it's certainly worth checking your warranty status. Your projector will certainly be approaching the end of its warranty now, however this model was shipped with a 3 year warranty so it may still be covered if the fault is not the lamp. Check now, and log the (possible) fault with your local Hitachi service dept. eg

Essentially it is hard to say. You might find that replacing the lamp makes the projector considerably brighter. A new lamp in an old projector does not return the image to a showroom state though due to degradation in the LCD panels, and dirt etc.
If the projector is not displaying any sign of other fault (ie. it will run happily for a decent length of time, and there are no warning LEDs) it might be worth considering replacing the lamp. A new lamp will cost cost around £250 or $250. If you are going to replace the lamp before sending it for "repair" make sure you fit a genuine Hitachi lamp as non genuine lamps can lead to warranty problems.
