Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a subzero 601r refrigerator. Been acting funny. Temp wasnt going downto set temp, then would work fine and freeze. No error codes or flashing lights. Checked frost line on evaporator and its frosted all the way. Checked compressor for leak, running around 25lbs. Board acting funny, wierd intermitten readings. Then just recently vacuum condensor alarm comes on. Is this a board or thermister?

Look for doors not properly closing, poor air flow over coil or something blocking air flow, improper freon level.

The display stopped showing temps and displayed a "6". The actual temperatures dropped to freezing. I unplugged the unit a few times for up to 2 days but the same issue developed.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Error Code: Flashing 6 on the fridge display
Condition: The 6th Sense technology is activated - If you put warm food in the refrigerator or leave the door open, the 6th Sense technology kicks on to return the refrigerator to the set temperature. The flashing 6 should go away once it gets back to the right temperature.
Part or Parts: Allow fridge to get back to temp on its own (no parts required)
Whirlpool Refrigerator Error Code: 6 on the fridge display
Condition: Computer error
Check: Remove power for 5 minutes
Part or Parts: If code returns replace mother board

My 12 year old subzero fridge (650) is not getting cold. this morning i discovered ice behind the fresh food drawer, removed it, it was running fine, temp 35. now tonight the temp is 51. freezer is fine....

Is it flashing vacuum condenser? Ice behind the crisper drawer shouldn't effect the temp. What is it set at? You can go to www.subzerospecialists.com and click on Tech Help for additional info.

I have a sub zero 601r that has stumped me. We had a power surge and the board went. I got a new one and installed it. The new one has error codes of 07 & 08, the service light flashes and the ICE...

Hi!
I believe the codes in this particular case mean that there is an open or mixed up connection on the board, or that the board you got is not for the unit you own. You may try unplugging the unit for a few minutes to reboot the board and see if the codes disappear. Here is a description of the codes:

07 Freezer Cabinet Thermistor read open or shorted for 10+ seconds, or repeatedly read erratic temp's

08 Freezer Evaporator Thermistor read open or shorted for 10+ seconds, or repeatedly read erratic temp's

This is the Control Board for your unit (601f, 601r) Call 800-269-2609 to verify with serial number off model tag.

My sub zero runs all the time, why? It works fine, but should'nt the fan/motor cycle on and off as needed?

Some subzero's run the condensor motor all the time. This is the motor next to the compressor. If you check the temp. and it is running normal then check the condensor coil and if dirty clean it. If it is clean and its cooling fine (you've checked the temp). You may have a bad t-stat also, but normally if your not freezing food that won't be the issue. Just clean the condenser and see if it runs less.

Subzero 601R refrigerator temperature doesn't go below 50F

hmm... it's possible your freon pressure is low. i would check the thermostat first though. if lowering the thermostat has an effect then it's just getting week. you will have to get a new thermostat eventually but i would leave it untill it fails. if the fridge is running continuously and just cannot get any colder you definately need more freon. i would check for leaks too. since it's a built in i would recomend that you have a tech do this.

601R sub zero vacuum condenser notice

Your problem might be serious enough to warrant a repairman's visit. But this was my experience: An official Sub Zero repair company in NYC told me this: If the "vacumm condenser" light keeps flashing after you've opened and cleaned the condenser grill, then either pull out the plug for the Sub Zero refrigerator or turn off the circuit breaker (or fuse) in your house that leads to it, wait for some minutes and then turn back on. It is NOT enough to turn off the unit using its own internal on-off switch - it has to be totally disconnected from the AC. I did so, waited 15 minutes, turned back on, and it worked!! I had vacuumed the condenser grill twice but the "vacuum condenser" light kept flashing AND the refrig would go bonkers if set below 38. Now the flashing warning is off and it's down to 35. Great !!!

Subzero 690 flashing EC and service

Rhino, this is yet another simple fix. You need to call subzero and let them know that your ref section is not cooling properly. 9 out of 10 times it will be a problem with the evaporator coil needing replacement. Sub is aware of this issue and usually picks up the tab for this repair.
