Question about Moen & Villeta Two Handle Lavatory Faucet

One faucet handle has come off the base.

Have unscrewed the portion above the sink top, but cannot figure out how to raise the part that goes into the handle to make it work. Any help is welcome.

the model is needed for a step by step but. if your faucet is for a sink and not a shower then the handles may be connected to the pour spout or separate depending on model and in either case there is a nut screwed under the fixture that hold it in place. do not unscrew any of the faucet until you have turned of the water running to it.

Under the handle, there is a curved trim ring at the top that needs to be unscrewed from the base. This can be on tight due to hard water buildup. I cut two strips of rubber to wrap, one to wrap around the trim ring and the other to wrap base while using channel locks for the trim ring and a pipe wrench to keep the base from turning.

After that is off, you will see a large hex head retainer nut that holds the valve assembly in place. A spanner wrench will get that off fairly easy.

Reassembly is the reverse. Kohler specs the hex nut to be torqued at 9 ft-lbs or 1//4 turn past hand tight.

How do you get the handles off the Finial Traditional faucet so that I can tighten a compression nut?

Grasp the base of the handle under the lever by hnad and turn it counterclockwise. If the whole valve turns, you will need to hold the valve from underneith the sink with a wrench while you unscrew the handle base on top. It is difficult to see, even with the Finial owners manual from Kohler how the two join.

I took a look at the brand on the web and though I do not know your model, it appears that the center spout would have to be loosened from down under the sink and then pulled up from the top. Those units usually come in three parts, two valves and the spout. The valves are put in from under the vanity/sink and the spout is put in from above the vanity/sink.

The faucet should have come with a rubber gasket which goes between the faucet body and the granite top. Make sure it's properly aligned and has not slipped out of place. Be carefull when tightening the faucet to the granite, since granite is easily cracked.

Trouble removing the faucet from a Delta Waterfall 174

I wouldn't worry about messing up the threads as it is an old unit that you wish to discard. Do what is necessary to hold the threads still with the vise-grips and loosen the nut until you reach the damaged threads. Then pull the faucet up from the top until the nut hits the bottom of the sink and cut the threaded nipple from the faucet with a hack-saw blade. Lay down cardboard to protect the finish of the sink and surrounding counter top.

I have had to do this many times and it usually saves you the headache of bloody knuckles.
