SOURCE: craftsman compressor motor/capacitor problem?

I had the same tripped breaker problem with a similar Sears model 919.195060 (25 gal) and luckily I had access to another, almost identical sears compressor to swap parts to diagnosis it. It turned out to be the run capacitor, but from what I was finding in my on-line research, it could have been a bad winding on the motor or the start capacitor just as easily. If your resistor is outside of the capacitor, just cut the wire right at the capacitor and add flag termnals Mine had 3 wires coming out of the capacitor (not the normal terminal cap style), and two of them were basically just tied together (same color). I didn't have an external resistor. I bought a GE 97F9614 run capacitor (40 mf, 370vac) and other than having to cut out a bit of the plastic on the mounting bracket and buying "flag" style 1/4" terinals from radioshack, it fit and worked perfectly. It seems if GE is the only one that has the right dimensions (1.75dia x 3.88 long, not including the terminals. That capacitor cost $27.50 with tax at a local electric motor shop. Sears doesn't even have any info on the motor parts, like capacitor - they want to sell you a new motor for almost as much as a new whole compressor. I ended up looking at parts forr the motor on a Devilbliss (that's what the 919 means on the model number, that it's made by Devilbliss), but it was not an easy way to go and really didn't help that much). The easier/normal way of matching capacitors is to measure the case dimensions carefully and match up the voltage and uf (or mf) specs,

SOURCE: craftsman compressor motor/capactitor problem?

It sounds like either the check valve or the switch that lets the air pressure off of the pressure switch is broke. After the compressor pumps to shut off pressure, when it shuts off, it should let a short burst of air from the switch. If it does this, that parts good. Give it a little time, then manually push that plunger on the switch.( you're trying to see if the check valve, which is a one way valve, is leaking air back into the cylinder) If air is release from that plunger, the check valve is leaking and will not let the compressor start, because air has leaked back into the cylinder.

Have a 21 gal central pneumatic. 2.5 hp. With no pressure in tank, plugged into wall outlet. Upon start up it will run 20 seconds then the breaker on motor case trips. Barely used this thing.

the thermal circuit breaker is overloading
that can be from a faulty tcb or a problem in the compressor ( seized)
most need start/run capacitors for the motor to start and if it / they are faulty then that will blow the TCB
if it has 2 capacitors ( one for start which it is doing and the other for run then that capacitor may be the problem
if it has the one unit with 4 wires , replace the capacitor
suggest that get an electrician in to check out the unit

How to operate chicago pneumatic qrs 3.0 air compressor

well i take it this is not new or it would come with a manual (this by the way can be gotten from Harborfreight.com/Parts if you like ) but some generic operation instructions for most small air compressors, 1st detrmine if it's oilless if Not look for a oil ck point this might be marked with an arrow or just look like a normal pipe plug <MAKE sure it has proper amount of oil in it (most take 30w non detergent) second find air/water seperator and make sure bowl is clean and free of any thing , plug in power cord to a 20 amp power outlet (look at breaker that supplies outlet) , locate pressure swtch (usually at end of power cord on compressor ) find trip switch and select Auto posisition, machine should start monitor pressure gauge to see that it rises evenly if compressor gets to above 150 psi remove plug from outlet and have pressure switch repaired ( it can be very dangerous to operatate this way) but if all is well connect hose or tool of your selection to outlet regulator and set dial to proper pressure for tool ( do not excede max tool pressure or you will dammage it )

Craftsman compressor

Prior to starting the unit. Look at the pressure gauge. 1. Make sure the regulator is set to the desired PSI. 2. Make sure the unit is connected to an AC circuit that is required to support this machine. If you have high end AC outlets that are intended for a low power i.e. 10 AMP and you connect this unit to the circuit it may disconnect. So try an outlet on the outside of the house intended for higher amperage machines like those used outdoors.

The problem may be with the power source. Check that first.

Now for the unit itself. 1. Connect the unit and set the pressure regulator to max pressure. 2. Turn the unit to Auto/On the unit should only run until the pressure is reached. 3. Connect a pneumatic tool to the unit and drain off pressure. Once the pressure gauge drops below the set value the unit should start again. If not then you need to take the unit to a certified service center to have the regulator checked.

Central pnematic compressors, will not build up air

Use soapy water to check for air leaks. Can also check piston ring and valves. Make sure engine is driving the compressor.

Air compressor will not start.

When you are texturing walls you need a texture machine, they work very differently from an air compressor. An air compressor, especially one as small as the Central Pneumatic 40400 cannot supply the constant flow of air required by texture guns. If your compressor was running long enough to get hot enough to smell it then stopped working some of the possibilities are:
- Popped a circuit breaker, either the house breaker for the outlet you were using or the breaker on the compressor motor. This usually occurs because the compressor is being run on a too small guage or too long extension cord or run constantly for an extended period.
- Motor got overheated and seized up or shorted out. This could be as simple as a bearing seizing or as bad as the coils in the arnature shorted out.
- Pump may have seized up. Even if the sight glass shows the crankcase is full, the condition of the oil and its ability to lubricate are greatly affected if it is overheated.

TURN OFF THE BREAKER AND UNPLUG THE UNIT FROM THE OUTLET...WAIT 2 OR 3 MIN. AND TURN BREAKER BACK ON AND
PLUG THE UNIT BACK IN AND TURN THE POWER ON....IF THE
SAME RESULT AS BEFORE...REPEAT ALL STEPS EXCEPT PLUG THE UNIT IN A DIFFERENT OUTLET...IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS , UNPLUG THE UNIT AND MAKE SURE THE POWER CORD IS SECURELY FASTENED INSIDE OF THE UNIT AND CHECK FOR ANY BURNT OR LOOSE WIRES OR FUSES OR GROUNDS.

Breaker switch tripped when ac compressor engaged

The power strip is rated too low for the wattage of the unit and that causes the breaker to trip. I would be better for the unit if it were plugged directly into a wall outlet, because there is less a chance of voltage drop which would burn out the unit. They will only tolerate 10% voltage drop before getting into trouble.
