The door was fully open. I tried on more thing I read in a previous suggestion. I unplugged the unit for the night and tried again this AM and it worked fine. I did find out that my upper limit must have over shot and jambed against the trolley stop. I reinstalled the stop and adjusted my upper limit and all is working properly at this time. I guess it must have got hot because of pushing against the trolley stop bolt.

Is your door open or closed? If you release the door is it easy to open and close manually? Does the opener run with the door released?

Garage Door Opener Will Open But Not Close

Your machine is jammed, meaning the carriage part or trolley that has the swingarm attached to the door has went further then it,s limit! your trolley that has the chain or belt connected to it may be jammed against the stop bolt that is just before the powerhead of your opener. In order to get it to operate again you must loosen the chain and take some tension off of it , you should also remove the stop bolt at this point sine a loose chain can add an extra inch or two to the travel limit when the door is coming up or going down . Once the bolt is removed your garage door opener should work again , be shure to retighten the chain after removing the stop bolt and check your travel limits in the up and down position! Hope this helps you in getting it to work again! Glenn

I have a craftsman garage door opener model 139.53674SRT2. It was working fine and we opened it and closed it twice today with no problem. The third time we opened it, it would not close. Both led...

The led blinking 5 times is the code for "RPM sensor or motor overload." The motor has an thermal switch which opens when the motor get hot from running too much. This automatically resets itself after about 15 minutes. This problem can also be caused when the door opens too far and the trolley jams against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. To correct this you need to loosen the chain enough to eliminate the tension against the trolley and then run the motor until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Craftsman 139.53673SRT1 garage door opener (1997 model) worked yesterday. Today the unit is not responding, the light does not flash, the LED blinks 5 times then stops and then starts again. Unit clicks...

Usually when this happens it is because the door is open and the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Try loosening the chain to relieve the pressure on the trolley and then close the door. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now tighten the chain.

The unit is flashing the code for 'motor overheated or RPM sensor failure'. If the door is stuck in the open position it could be because the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and run the opener until the door is closed. Now on the side of the motor unit you will find the 'up limit' adjustment. Turn this 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

The trolley is most likely jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and then run the door until it is closed. Now locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

The LED flashing 5 times is the code for "RPM sensor or motor overload". Usually if it is the RPM sensor - which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor - it will run a few inches and then reverse. I doubt very much it is the motor. I would pull the logic board and check for loose or missing traces on the printed circuit. Especially if you have had any electrical storms or power surges.

If your door is in the open position and the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit you need to remove the bolt and then run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit control' on the side of the motor unit and turn the control a couple complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

If the door is stuck in the open position it probably because the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and run the opener until the door is closed. On the side of the unit you will find an adjustment for the 'up limit'. Turn this about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

Post back if this isn't your problem.

Craftsmen garage door won't open. 5 blinks and a pause on ind.

Most commonly this is caused by the trolley jamming against a bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and run the opener until the door closes. On the side of the motor unit you will find a control labeled 'up limit'. Turn this about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt. Should do it for you.

I have a 1995 Sear garage door opener that stopped working

The trolley (the part that moves back and forth and is connected to your door) of your opener is most likely jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. You can remove the bolt or loosen the chain until your unit will run. Once the door is closed find the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn it about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now replace the bolt or tighten the chain. Whichever you first did.
