Question about Gateway MT3418 Notebook

Wireless card/driver not working properly.

I got my laptop about 2 years ago and from the beginning had minor issues with my wireless card not picking up a good signal even if it was sitting next to a modem. The folks at Best-Buy said that it was fine because it picked up their wireless network. I took it back home and over the year it has gotten increasingly worse and worse. I uninstalled the driver for the Realtek card, and tried to reinstall from the Gateway site, but none of the drivers that they offer work at all. What can I do? Do I need to try to reinstall vista? I did this once before when the hard drive was replaced. Please help if you can. If I missed any important information, please comment.

If it is indeed a hardware problem, and your wireless card cannot be repaired or coaxed into giving you better reception, I would advise buying an external adapter. You can get a cheap USB adapter for under $20 that may suit your needs. That is certainly a better solution than paying for an operating system, assuming that you don't already own it.

The software should not affect your computer's performance, so reinstalling vista will probably not work. Realtek has awful drivers, so I'm not surprised that you are unable to connect.

While deterioration of the card should not be able to occur, I have had it happen with my equipment as well, and it may be a symptom of extreme temperatures, if your laptop gets really hot.

Signal deterioration can also occur if your router has been moved towards solid metal objects (walls, too) or if new networks have been introduced in your area (causing interference)

What are specifications you are using for your wireless network? B, G or N, WEP or WPA-1 or 2 encryption, etc.
If everything was working fine at the beginning and no one has changed any of the network settings then that indicates an issue on the laptop.
You can try to reinstall the driver by downloading it from the Acer website as a Windows Update could have installed an 'updated' driver that doesn't work properly.

Hi there,
First of all you need to see two things in the system 1. Drivers 2. Wireless button Light
1. If the drivers are installed you will see wireless icon in the taskbar bilalseham.jpg
if its not available you can check two things 1. Drivers are installed properly 2. Either its enable or disable
You will see the drivers by right clicking my computer>Manage> Device Manager Right click my Network Places> Properties> wireless network connection right click and select Enable
2. Wireless Button Light Infront of the laptop where you see the Audio Jacks and You see two white buttons (Right one is Wireless Enable/Disable Button) when its Disabled you will not see any light When Enabled you will see Orange light Blinking or stable. Press once and it should get enabled. and if you have installed Launch Manager you will also see notification on screen that WIRELESS ENABLED OR WIRELESS DISABLED
Follow above steps and you will be able to see the wireless connection,

Wireless adapter not functioning-


Do the following :
  1. Turn Laptop off, then disconnect adapter and remove battery. Re assemble and restart.
  2. Try clicking the button activating the wireless card.
  3. Reinstall wireless card drivers, select drivers from Compaq Presario V6205NR Notebook PC
  4. If all that did not work, then the internal adapter is faulty. Buy an external wlan adapter:WLAN Adapter WL-167G-£12.90 new

Wireless N and 4 to 5 year old sony vaio's


Any VAIO Computer released 4 to 5 years ago is not equipped with a wireless card that supports 802.11N WLAN standards. All the older VAIO Computer supports 802.11 a/b/g wireless standard. Because of this hardware compatibility issues the Computer is crashing.

For this issue Sony has not released any general update. However, you may visit the Sony site for specific model to check for any update release to address this issue.

My dear! alway remember that when you use any new hardware you should install driver first and then plug it with CPU. So it could be possible that when you install driver first then card will pick and work properly.

pls check first the antenna of your wireless lan be sure wireless card is properly inserted and driver is compatible too.

You will have to remove the cover to the wireless card (located on the bottom of the machine) to see exactly what it is. Then you can go to the manufacturer web site, and download the correct software/drivers.

uninstall the drivers for the wireless card then run windows live update the wireless card should be found and the drivers should d-load and then install themselves if that doesn't work try resetting your router or modem for the internet... sometimes certain computers in a house will receive a signal, and you might get the signal as well but the computers are messing around with the wireless... this happens more with belkin routers just restart the router and just run that one computer on the wireless network and it should start working. then you can allow all the other computers back onto the network

HP pavilion wireless uninstalled itself


I have the exact same issue with a wireless card. Most likely the card is bad. The driver is not uninstalling itself, it simply can't see the hardware and is therefore not listed. Change out the card, and it should resolve the issue.
