How do you replace a defroster timer?

Frigidaire refrigerator model# FPDA18TPWZ. Cools ok, freezer not so good. This was in the house when I moved here (about three years ago) so I don't think it has a leak. Door w/strips look good, I checked for leakage with matches and none appeared.

Thanks for the input. The freezer fan runs and the coils are clean. My problem is the fridge runs a lot, that"s why I think it's the defroster timer. Any idea on how to change it? I think it's in the temperature setting box but I would like to know for sure before I start. Thanks again.

Check your fan that goes from the freezer to the refrigerator. It is probably faulty. If not then check your defrost timer.
I hope this helps

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp

..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

The bottom of my frigidaire is not cooling properly; and the freezer works great; is it a minor problem i can fix

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Kenmore side-by-side freezer is fine but fridge is not

Yes, Airflow is what cools the frig. Check for frost buildup on the coils indicating a problem in the defrost components r a fan not running fast enough. Eric

Help in North Carolinia

if you look inside the freezer you will see frost on the back panel of the freezer, you ar defrosting manually, the issue is either a defrost heater a defrost therinastat or a defrost timer, the timer is an adaptive defrost timer and is in the fresh food section of the ref, gut feeling is defrost timer but one of the three, a ohm meter will tell you if the heater and the thremastat are good if so the timer is the problem
