Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi my polaroid LCD flat screen TV is behaving strange. I've had it almost a year and problems have started the last few days. Basically when I change the channel the screen will go black and freeze. The remote will not work or the manual buttons on the side. I have to pull the plug out of the socket to stop the power. Then I can turn the tv back on it will go to the previous tv channel with perfect screen and sound. The problem only occurs when I change channel or select a channel from the guide. Has anyone had this problem before? Please get in touch if someone knows how to fix this. Thanks!!

Would need the model number but it sounds like a software fault, this can be the control switch chip, does it do this on source to, some times can be fixed with the tv board being clean'd and the dust removed from the board. if there is a lot of dust build up it can cause problems with the micro chips connections you get a statick build up from the dust and make the board do strange thigs

SOURCE: Picture blacks out after a few seconds after turning on the tv

Anytime an LCD has a shade of pink, that means the CCFL lamps are about to go out. Now that you have a black screen, I'd say you just need some new bulbs.

SOURCE: (Built in) TV GUIDE Screen is black except for small channel preview window on top-left.

After purchasing a "service remote" and then buying a new "Main Board-Analog" which didn't fix the problem, I spoke with tech support who then emailed me an "EPK" file. Basically the computer board inside the television needed to be updated since this whole digital conversion is happening.. However this incident has given me tremendous knowledge of what to do and how to troubleshoot and how to reset my own TV with all the hidden menus that you never knew you had. Don't be tricked into buying a mainboard or even paying a diagnostic fee. If your TV GUIDE screen goes blank and all you see is a small channel preview screen in the top left corner, chances are all you need is the EPK file update. I received the update file in my email, I downloaded it to an SD card, inserted the SD card into my 32LX1D LG LCD TV and it did the rest. It was too easy. Most newer LG TV's are coming with a "SERVICE USB" so you can attach a "jumpdrive" or some other storage to it. These so called "Authorized Service Centers" are a hoax. WHen you bring your TV into them they charge you a "diagnostic fee" ranging from $50-$150 just to diagnose it, then they tell you that that can also be applied to the cost of the repair. All the service center does is call a special priviledged tech support 800# for LG to find out what to do. I've replaced and removed my own Main board. You gotta learn the game people, its all a big game to keep the revenue coming long after the sale of the TV. Which is why nowadays automobiles are manufactured with parts that were made to break intentionally to keep bringing you back.

If the power indicator remains on (or LED remains green) when the unit goes dead, you will need to replace the main board to resolve.

Polaroid 37 in LCD TV

There is not a good solution. If you read about the Polaroid 37" LCD HDTV, you have a problem and it's the same one that many of us have. According to Polaroid's service center, the control box needs to be replaced. Polaroid does not stand by this product. The company gives you a lot of lip service about how many they sell and how few problems they have - they're lying. The TV's should be recalled and I'd suggest you join many of us to demand it. Write BBB, write the company where you bought the TV, write any consumer group you can think of - Polaroid TV's are junk. Sorry you've got one. Sounded like a good deal and Polaroid used to manufacture quality - no more.
