I have a Singer 8280. The needle bent and when I went to replace itI could not raise the fit the replacement needle in at the height the hole is in. I cannot turn the knob to raise it and it will not work with the pedal either. Is something broken inside? Is it worth fixing or should I get another one?
Depends what it would cost for service. Most standard service would cost at least $50-100. You can purchase a replacement machine for ~$100.

SOURCE: I can't raise the bobbin thread. The needle raises before the bobbin thread can 'catch'
readjust the hook to just grab the thread loop as the needle raises it will take a few tries to get the exact setting for the hook (maybe you will see a mark on the hook shaft to show you where the hook's set screw was located before it slipped)

On your Singer, you don't actually raise / lower the feed dog. Instead you attach a "darning plate" (which should have come with the machine) which covers the feed dogs so they do not come in contact with the fabric. Sounds like it is out of time. I recommend you take it to your local repair center.
Generally, this is because the needle
is inserted wrong or because it's bent. In the first case, the top
of the needle (called the shank) has a flat side-this has to be
inserted so it faces the back or away from you.
In the second
case, when a bent needle stops the top thread from picking up the
bobbin thread. Even if you think your needle is fine, change it to
see if this solves the problem.
