SOURCE: I don't understand how to

It sounds like you have 2 sprockets on the Front (Crank) sprocket-
and likely 6 sprockets on the rear?

So-- when you have the chain in the smaller diameter sprocket on the front, and you have the chain on the biggest sprocket in the rear-- you have the most mechanical advantage-- and you can climb hills the best-

If you started in this gear, (sand you are pedaling on the level road) you could gradually work you way up thru those 6 sprockets-- until you are cruising-

Then -- for all practical purposes, you can shift the Front sprocket to the larger sprocket, and now you have at the fastest ratio possible. (In other words you pedal slower, for a faster rotation of the rear wheel-- make sense?)

There is no need to switch back and forth 12 times, as you go gradually faster-- (It is not like driving a big truck! :-)

Does this help?-- if not, let me know what I missed in your question?

As usual it would be good to give an approximate area in the world that you are at for anyone to answer a question of this sort. I live in Ontario Canada by the way. Many in here live in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America And Australia, some even live in the USA.

It doesn't fold, not unless 3 people are at it!

If nothing is bent, and you have tried lubrication of the joints, then your next step is too take it into your local bike shop and have them tune it up.

You may have some rust in the frame, this is where something like WD-40 or Liquid wrench can help to free up the parts that slide against each other.

    What is a Folding Bicycle?

A folding bicycle is a bicycle that folds for convenient storage and portability. The perfect folding bike would be one that rides as well as a quality full-size bike, folds in seconds, weighs less than 10 kg (22 lb), and folds small enough to fit under a bus or train seat.

Dahon Vitesse: i have tried to tighten my folding mechanism in

Here is one manual:http://files.dahon.com/support/manuals/2009/2009_16inch_20inch_fold_unfold_guide.pdf Here is a much more detailed manual:http://files.dahon.com/support/manuals/2009/2009_dahon_user_manual_en.pdf It looks to me as if the handle bar stem has to be up high enough so that the end of the stem will clear the fold when you fold it down. Otherwise the stem will be down inside the bike and it won't be able to fold. If that makes any sense. The better manual has good pictures and diagrams and explains the locking mechanisms a lot better. Please rate me if this helps.

Shimano tiagra 9 speed shifters how to change gear

    Go to http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/index.jsp

Search in drop down list to go to all tiagra items and identify your particular components. Shimano are good at numbering their parts and you should find the number you seek on the bicycle component. You will usually be able to download an exploded parts diagram and service instructions. The service instructions are prefixed by the letters SI.
