Why is my powerstroke pressure washer overheating and stopping?

My pressure washer works for five minutes then over heats and stalls. It was out of oil so I refilled it. Water pressure is on high. It was working fine for about 1/2 an hour then stopped.

My husband thinks I need spark plugs. I though the spark plugs were just to ignite it, which is happening. It ignites and then dies.

Why would my pressure washer function for one hour and then begin to work sporadically and die. It was low in oil so we added some. The water is on and pressure is good. However, it will not run for more that five minutes with out dying.

From what i understand ,you might have a bad armature
Armature partly dammed it can work for a while then will
stop when it overheat ,
Check if you have a high spark around armature , red spark
then check brushes , if brushes is good but the spring is damaged
that mean you have an overheating problem and you need to replace your armature , I hope this will help you solve your
problem ,, let me know if you need any further assistance.

Not enough water VOLUME and pressure to supply the pump with a steady flow of water. Water is cavatating (adding air to the water) and the piston is heating up and jambing. Try using a larger size hose diameter and a shorter hose to supply the pump.

Pressure washer shuts off overheating

If you are using an extension cord this will happen. If using an extension cord make sure it is a 12ga.If you are not using an extension cord then it could be a bad motor or low voltage from the source.

Portercable Pressure Washer Model PCH2401

when the trigger for the wand is not pulled , there is a pressure relief valve that bypasses the water in the pump and so there is no pressure until the trigger is pulled again.
with the pump getting hot and not being able to pull the motor to restart, it indicates that that pressure relief valve has jammed ( faulty ) and the pump is running at full pressure all the time
That will heat the pump and stop the engine from restarting
That valve is where I would start looking for a problem

Some times the electic motor doesn't work is there a safety stop feature and if so how do you get around it?

There is a safety plate inside the machine so when the machine overheats the plates come apart. If this happens to many times the plates can actually stay apart and the pressure washer will not start or it will work for five minutes and then cut off. An electrician maybe able to help with this problem but I never advise anyone to tamper with the safety features of the pressure washer.

Power washer will run fine for about 30 to 40 minutes then stalls, I wait a few minutes and starts but it runs rough and stops.

Sounds like a fuel problem eighter a filter or you have debrie in your fuel tank thats cloging the inlet from the tank to the carburtator . Its that or a problem with the water pump . That could also be clogging and putting exesive back prressure on the engine shaft causeing stalling . What dose your water flow look like do you loose that first before the engine starts to bog down or dose the engine go first and the pressure follow . Also do you winterize the mechine i owen and repair many washers if you need more info you need to give more pier_j

Air conditioner will cool for five minutes and then turn off. comes on and off sporatically but never stays on for more than five minutes.

could be the pressure cut off switch is working out in advance as it cut off. If there is enough cooling then it can be possible that the filter is clogged and the condenser is clogged. If by choosing a higer fan speed for blowing iff the ac goes on for more time, then clean up all the fins and filters to make it more efficient to heat exchange, if not change the thermostat/ pressure cut off switch.

EXCELL VR2500 power washer runs and then stops

I had the very same problem and nobody could help me until I was talking with a co-worker. Its a very easy fix. I couldn't believe it. I did this yesterday and it ran like a charm. You can either replace the head gasket or just by a good sealer to use on your existing gasket or replace it. I use Indian head gasket sealer on mine. The bolts on the bottom were lose causing a loss of compression. If you need more info you can email me (for free) and I will tell you exactly how to do it.

Put new glow plugs in ran fine for 1 day now it wont start..

You may want to surf around on some of the powerstroke forums for detailed answers, but I know the powerstrokes use oil pressure to control the injectors so you may have some problems with the high pressure oil pump.
Again, it is just a guess. I just wanted to point you to some of the Ford Powerstroke forums which may be of much more help for you.
Good luck..
