Jan, This sounds like a defrost problem. The numbers you posted as Sears model just don't look right. Could you look in places listed in photo for a number that looks like this? 213.235689 With the correct number I can tell you where to look and test and what parts to get. http://servicepartstec.blogspot.com/

Ok, yours has a defrost timer part number WR9X483 Located inside the fresh food section hidden behind the control panel. Need you to find a small round hole possibly hidden with a plastic plug inside the control panel where you adjust temperatures. Listed as part #648 in lower photo. You need to turn it clockwise slowly until refrigerator compressor stops. Leave the refrigerator like that for about 30 minutes. It should turn itself back on. If the compressor does not restart after this time turn the timer a little further until the refrigerator compressor restarts. Tell me what happens when you do this when compressor stops the defrost should begin. If the timer does not restart the refrigerator then timer is defective and needs replaced. If it does restart we need to check the freezer evaporator section for a defective defrost thermostat or defrost heater. Let me know what you find, Sea Breeze

dont know model, do know temps. The fridges highest temp is 5deg c, preferably between 1 and 4, if freezer goes above minus(-)18deg c your are in danger zone, there should be a regulator control in the fridge, usually on left or right hand side near front(door)

Check to see if the fan in the freezer is running, without it you get no cooling in refrigerator. If that's ok check for ice buildup on back freezer wall if so you have a defrost problem

What you didnt state was whether you had cold air blowing when the damper opened up. If you did, then the problem will be with the damper assembly itself, or the control board, which is what you would adjust to change temperatures. This microswitch you mentioned, was this on the control board? then the control board is the problem. If you did something with the damper assembly, then that might be the problem.
If you dont have any cold air blowing when you opened the damper door, then airflow is your issue, and you will have to include more symptoms for a refrigerator repair diagnosis.

Refrigerator cools, but not cool enough, even with temp adjustment turned to coldest setting. Freezer only gets down to 0. Fridge at 44 degrees

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

The refrigerator side of my kenmore refrigerator does not cool

Make sure the evaporator fan is operating. Since the fresh food side is cooled by the air flow from the freezer side. Check for blockage of the air duct from the freezer to the fresh food side. Set the temp control half way. Over adjusting this setting can cause problems with cooling. If I can help you any farther, let me know.

Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.
