Try searching the internet for this. There are numerous articles & videos on removing the HD from various Asus laptops, but I couldn't find one that was specific for your model. You might try reading/viewing some to get a feel as to what the procedure is.
Alternatively try contacting Asus support on this issue or for a service manual (the user guide does not describe hardware)

My Asus X553M laptop is not booting up. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Temitope, Hard reset. Open computer, remove battery, hold power button down (((1 minute))), reinsert battery, reassemble laptop, push/hold power button a couple seconds.
2nd fix, try to boot laptop without hdd.(hard drive). Remove the hdd, then turn on the laptop.. then it can get into the bios.. reset the bios to the default setting, turn off the laptop, and then turn it on again with hdd reinstalled. This seems to be what works in the forums with this issue found in Asus laptops. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Does the drive work with other computers? What is on the Drive? File Format? What size? Have you done ALL your Windows and Asus updates? Remove ALL media, DVD,CD,USB, shut down, unplug, remove battery, leave battery out, plug in , reboot, insert USB.

Your drive is probably toast. Back up early and back up often. If you reformat you will lose everything. This sounds crazy, but please bear with me. Remove the drive and place it in your freezer and get it as cold as possible. A deep freeze is best. Let it sit overnight. Be prepared to reinstall it and fire up the laptop as quickly as possible. You may get it to fire up and boot properly. If so, have a brand new drive that you can clone. Clone the new drive and replace the old one. It is no good. note: After you replace the drive, you might get away with a reformat and use it as an additional storage drive, but it will always be suspect. don't store anything you want to see again. Backup, backup, backup!!!

Removing the hard drive from my ASUS B43J-B1B

Lol, yeah the black plastic tab is very common in laptops. It's there to give you leverage to slide the HDD out of the connector. You can also just put the palm of you hand on the drive with a little pressure and give it a good **** and it should come out of the connector. Manufacturers are very good about putting "warrenty void if sticker removed" stickers on parts they don't want you to touch FYI.

How do you remove the cd/dvd drive from the asus pro50 series notebook?

I'm not sure about your charger problem. To remove the charger just pull out the plug by the thicker part at the plug (not by the thinner wire).

Look for a small hole near the CD door. Using a large straightened paper clip push in while gentle pulling on the drive. There is also a small hole which releases the CD tray. If the drive does not have this hole look on the bottom of the laptop and locate the small screw retaining the drive. When reinstalling do it slowly, keeping the drive very straight as there are several connections it goes into on the laptop.

Purchased on Ebay an Asus which has a locked HD. I have booted it to USB stick with Knoppix. It has a 160Gb locked Western Digital drive. Is this a bios problem? Is it a HD firm ware problem. I'm not...

You have to erase the motherboard memory. However this is extremely difficult. Even if you esase the cmos memory and put in a whole new hard drive, the lock may still be there. Your best bet is to contact the seller to see if they will give you the password. If they dont want to help you then you should leave a negative feedback on their account.

I turn on my Asus N50V and it hangs at the initial ASUS splashscreen ... if I hit F2 to entr the BIOS it goes through basic post but then hangs on the BIOS "Wait..." screen

Please remove any external devices (if connected) to your laptop
Remove the power adapter cable
Remove the battery
Push and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this will remove unwanted charge from the laptop electronics.
Then connect the power adapter cable alone and switch the laptop on and check if it is working fine.
If not remove the power adapter and connect the battery alone and try if it works fine. If it still does not then we have to remove the other components that are detachable from the laptop like

1. CD / DVD drive
2. Hard drive
3. Memory modules (if you have 2 remove one)
4. PC cards

even after checking with all the above options, if the computer is freezing we can definitely confirm a core hardware issue.

Gets stuck on the "asus" screen when i trun my laptop on.

Could be that the hard drive is not making a good connection. Turn the laptop upside down. Find the "latch" where the hard drive is "housed" and remove the drive... Then carefully and firmly replace it and make sure it makes good contact. Then try again to boot the laptop. If it still does not start up TAKE IT BACK to where you bought it from and let them sort it out 'cause it is supposed to be under warranty for at least 1 year
