Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hi, Sorry if this is a duplicate. .. issues uploading my original post... My Hotpoint DRYER TVM570 Aquarius is making a loud screeching noise occasionally. It isn't doing it every time my partner just used it for an hour with no issues. However I used it for 5 minutes this morning and it was like nails on a chalkboard. Thanks in advance

It could be a loose or worn out belt.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 - Grinding Noise From Drum

This sounds like the min bearings have gone, open the door and see if there is any play up and down on the drum. if so its the bearing if not it could be something that has fallen from a pocket and got stuck between the metal clothes drum and the oute drum casing. a take apart job i am afraid for both issues.

SOURCE: dryer makes a loud noise then stops

If it stops running when hot it may be the motor. The belt or drum rollers would not stop it from running.

SOURCE: Hotpoint aquarius 1100 bangs while spinning

Several possible reasons for this. M/C not level, causing it to move about.
Overloading of m/c.
Loose concrete balance weight, there is one at top and one at bottom.
Suspension spring broken or unhooked.
Suspension leg loose or broken.
Main drum bearings worn, to check this, turn drum by hand and if it feels noisy or rough , then bearings have gone (expensive repair).
There are other possible causes, but these are the main reasons.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

I had the same issue with a similar machine. Need to replace the spindle assembly (or otherwise make sure) that the belt is tight. Try replacing belt first.
Make sure machine is level. test it by putting some stuffed sockes in the machine, let them get thrown around. Listen for the banging noise, apart from the soft socks hitting the tumbler.

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail(meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) thatmight need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can tripout or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehaveprograms that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcodeshowing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also bethe fault.

wonder if you are overloading the machine and the noise is the drive belt screeching. if it sounds similar to a loose fanbelt on a car, it could be drum bearings that are seizing up (check by manaually rotating the drum. if it spins freely its ok) or the drive belt is getting worn and needs replacing

Either the belt is broken or possibly the motor starter has failed. Very often the belt. Be warned though, modern day tumble dryers use stretch belts that can be very difficult to fit.

if you check this link it shows the basics for getting in the dryer ,, after that , you may have to remove the vent tube inside ,, you will see a fan attached to the back of the motor, your missing Rib could be rubbing against that or possibly even the drum as it turns,, be sure and unplug the machine anytime you remove the back

sounds like the dryer heater element has worked loose perhaps and shorted out against the metal dryer box which sits on top of the drum.
