you need MFD microfared on your multimeter to check it. you can try to ohms it out but most multimeters arent quick enough to chech it. if its a single run you just switch sides (has 2 teminal connections out of the top) a duel run cap will have 3. on a duel run cap you will go from c to either the fan or the herm side. but always back to c. this is how you do it. put black on 1 side & red on the other it should show something & then drop to 0 you have to switch the red & black to check it again. this tells you it works but will not tell you how strong it is. thats where the MFD test comes in. there are numers on the side of the cap to tell you what it should be. normally + or - 10%. if the cap is swollen or looks like its leaking oil its bad

just use a multimeter or a test light, a test light can tell you what wires are hot and a multimeter can tell you what had continuity to ground.

The radio and horn in my 1997 dodge intrepid are not working, some one I bought the car from said it is the fuse problem. How can i identify that fuse?


a test light or multimeter set on audible continuity. a test ligh goes to a good ground an just check to see if power is present. a multimeter is more accurate because it tells yuo if the fuse is good or bad with or without power whereas a testlight relies on power to light and give indication.hope this helps.

I fully charged the battery for my peg perego utility tractor but the trractor is not receiving any power. How can i tell if the problem is with the battery or the tractor?


use a multimeter and check the battery and make sure that it is showing voltage, if it isn't the cables under the plastic housing probably became disconnected, check the charger with a multimeter and make sure that it is putting out at least 7 volts

Mosfet check


1. Switch your multimeter to the Diode test position.
The following steps are for an N-Channel MOSFET.
Hold the Black lead to the MOSFET's source terminal.
2. Touch the GATE terminal momentarily with the Red lead.
3. Then touch the DRAIN terminal with the Red lead without touching the GATE terminal with your fingers.
The multimeter should show a low reading now. (The MOSFET is now ON)
4. With the RED and BLACK leads still connected to the DRAIN and Source terminals of the MOSFET, now touch the GATE terminal with your finger. The Multimeter should immediately show an open cct. (The MOSFET is now OFF)
This is a very simple way to test a MOSFET.

No spin cycle


Probably a bad timer. Do you have a Multimeter? If so, I can walk you through the tests for a timer. If the timer is bad, it will not tell the machine to start the spin cycle. Let me know if you have Multimeter or Ohmmeter and I will post the test procedure.

Darrell ,testing 240v with adigitor q1563


Make sure it is switche to AC Volts. If it is a range multi meter, set the range to 240V.

If it is auto ranging, it should do it on its own as long as it is set to AC Volts.

AMPS kill, voltage doesn't. Still, be careful working around electricity.

There may be several things causing this fault (your sure the plug is fine?)

The ignition systems on these bikes are pretty basic. The Stator plate provides power to the CDI unit, which builds up until the pulser tells it to send the power to the coil and produce the spark

1. is there voltage from the stator plate (under flywheel) - you can test with a basic multimeter.

2. is the pulser sending a pulse - also can be tested with basic multimeter

3. is the CDI blown? - swap out to test

4. Is the Coil blown? - can be tested with multimeter

it is also very possible that you may have got a couple of wires mixed up when you switched engines.

well, that depends on exactly what your multimeter looks like, but generally you will see "Vdc". that means "Volts Direct Current".

BTW, all batteries are DC.

just put on prong on the negative (black) side, and the other prong on the positive (red) side, and your meter will tell you how many volts its reading....it should be around 12 volts.
