With power off, locate fan motor capacitor (generally silver in colour).
Rating on capacitor will be in microfarads at specified voltage ( 5mf @
370 volts). Be careful to discharge before handling and return defective
cap. to source of replacement. They can confirm whether or not truely
defective. Replace and secure. Restore power and check operation.

Purpose of run capacitor is to provide starting torque that you are
presently providing by hand spinning. Hope this helps.

there is a run capacitor is probably bad.
you can purchase a replacement one from slakey brothers. However the capacitor will still have a charge after the power and wires are removed. after turning off the breaker use a long bladed screw driver and ground the electrical leads to discharge the capacitor before removing. take it with you to the supply house along with the model and serial number of the condensing unit.

My son has a noisy condenser fan on the carrier condensing unit, model is a BRC060360 and Im puzzled on this unit seer rating, any ideas? Also looking for a budget condenser fan for it?

Condenser fans are usually not very expensive, so I suggest you go to a carrier dealer and buy one as a spare part. Have you check that the fan is clean and none of the blades are damaged.

NOISY SQUIRELL CAGE ON A CARRIER AC/HEAT PUMP OUTDOOR UNIT

Not unless its a belt driven wheel. If not no grease will help just make a big mess. Take the fan assembly out, take motor off the wheel, take wheel out of the assembly wash wheel with hose, dry reassemble. Or just go buy a new wheel but check your shaft on the motor if loose get a new motor also.

Condenser fan replaced one year ago, fan not turning but can hear motor

the answer to your problem is most likely the motor start capacitor. A AC motor can run in both directions. The start capacitor is used to cause the current to lag behined the voltage which determines the direction the motor will turn. Its posible the start and run capacitors are in one can. so changing one will change the other. However look for a wiring diagram. Do not asume that both capacitors are wired in properly. They may be fighting one another causeing premature failure.

I don't know what part of the country you are in, but here in Okla. a condenser motor can be bought by the home owner for around $100. You should be able to go to any appliance supply house and purchase your own motor. Take the model and serial number with you, it may help. If you have a local carrier distributor, they should give you a users manual. Try your best to get a motor close the the same as what you have. Note the horsepower, rpm, voltage and take the fan blade with you in case you need a new one. Hope this helps. Mark

Hi, this is an odd voltage 380 volts. Is it a 3 phase unit? To get a 220 volt 50hz condenser fan motor, you will have to go through a refrigeration/air conditioning parts house and order this. 60hz you would have no problem finding one in stock. Carrier is a good unit, and have been around for many years. You shouldn't have any problems locating one.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS You will need to go through a wholesale parts house.

Hi,
the screech is probably the condenser or exhaust fan as you guessed. And yes, a decent handi-man can fix it. Check the horsepower, RPMs,rotation, shaft size, and frame # of motor and order a new one from www.grainger.com or a local carrier dealer.
Install the new motor exactly as the old one was and wire according to the motor literature or the graphic on the side of the motor.
Use care when removming the old fan blade. a good file on the shaft and some WD-40 makes the job easier. Also a bit of patience... :-)

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

it sounds like the capacitor is shot there is usually a duel capacitor one side is for the compressor and the other side is for the condensor fan motor if it is bad the motor will over heat and turn off on internal overload
