Question about Heating & Cooling
Posted by Anonymous on
Need more information. OK, I will assume that the thermostat is set to heat and is set above current room temperature. First thing to try is switch the thermostat selector switch to off wait at least one minute switch it back to heat. If nothing happens check for a flashing light. Don't open or remove any panels at this point. Look for a little window on one or both cover panels on the front of the unit. Look for a steady or flashing light. If there is a flashing light (or two, some have more than one) count the number of flashes and remember or write them down. This is a fault code and will tell you what may be wrong with the system. Look for a decal on the unit that lists the flash codes and what they stand for. If there is not a decal on the outside of the unit look for the owners or service manual. There will be a page that will define the codes. Failing that shut down the system and take off one front panel at a time and look for the decal. Make note of the definition. If the fix is other than something very simple call a certified technician to have it repaired there isn't a lot that the do-it-yourselfer is able to do without specific tools and information. If you have the covers off if your unit has a small blower unit on the front that connects to a plastic or metal flue pipe that leads outside this may be the culprit. Very carefully try to touch the motor housing. If this motor is stuck it will be VERY HOT so don't just plop your hand on it or you will regret it. Without having more information that is about the best I can do.
