DELL INSPIRON CANNOT FIND WIRELESS CONNECTION

WAS GETTING BLUE SCREENS ON MY DELL INSPIRON 5100-INSTALLED NEW OPERATING SYSTEM. STILL HAVE YELLOW INDIDCATORS ON USB AND VIDEO CONTROLLER ON DEVICE MANAGER. HAVE LOADED ALL DRIVERS I FOUND . I USE A DLINK TO CONNECT TO MY WIRELESS AND IT CANNOT FIND THE WIRELESS....IS IT BECAUSE OF THE USB DRIVER MISSING? AND WHERE DO I FIND THE DRIVER?

I installed Windows XP from the cd that came with the computer....the d-link is a USB wireless adapter...I am at work and do not have the model number here ....thanks in advance for any help.

First thing. Right click on My Computer and select Manage. From there select Device Manager. In that list look for any icons that have a warning by them (usually a !, ?, or X). This will let you know if there is a problem with the hardware or driver. You can go to the properties of each device to see if there is an issue.

Post an update if you find anything out of place.

It could be one of two things, you installed a new operating system that does not support your device, (This usually happens with older hardware) or your assumption is correct, you are missing the proper drivers for your device.

If you could provide answers to the questions below, others or myself may be able to assite you in finding the correct drivers for your device.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What new operating system did you put on your computer?
Is the d-link part of your laptop's hardware or is it an extension, such as a usb wireless adapter? If it is then could you look on your device and provide the model number?

It lost its LAC and right now my computer is running on the wireless even though it's not wireless.

Your router's cable is connected in the wrong connection.

1. Remove the cable from the wireless connector
2. Insert it into one of the ports of the router that has LAN not WAN.
3. You will be able to connect your wireless and wired computers to the router.

This could have blue for WAN or Yellow for WAN and then the rest can have yellow for the 4 PCs to connect.

Dell Inspiron 6000 won't connet wireless network after reinstall

check DEVICE MANAGER if the wireless card have the right driver installed. if you found that the wireless card have yellow exclamation point on the right it means, you installed a wrong driver.

check also in BIOS if the wireless card is enable and the switch is turn on.

press Fn+F2 to enable wireless radio/anthena (funtion key with wireless icon in blue color)

some dell laptop have hard switch located right side check this and turn the switch on.

if you want to see the icon n task bar, go to control panel....network connection...right click on wireless adapter...select properties...check Show on taskbar
