SOURCE: dyson - can't push the vacuum
try to see if the carpet setting is to carpet. i know this machine says that its a life time belt, but i would check this just in case. best way to tell if it's working is to lay the machine on its belly with the brushes pointing up and turn on the machine to see if the brushes are turning. (be careful not to put your face directly in front, just in case something is lodged in the brush and flies out )

The seam problem could be an installation problem. It is important to pattern match any carpet with a pattern. If the carpet is a plush carpet, the seams should not be invisible, but not unsightly. If he carpet is a frieze, the seams should be hard to find. Any variance from these norms could mean a redo of the seams by a talented carpet installer. In a large room such as yours seams will never be invisible.

Sure, on the side of the machine you will have a knob, you can use this to tuirn the brushbar off and have suction only.

SOURCE: The vacuum has worked fine
The 'automatic' height adjustment consists of front wheels on a swivel mechanism that is forced up or down according to how high or low you are holding the vacuum. So, if you are holding the vacuum at a height for normal operation by it's very design it will be forced into the carpet too deeply which the belt cannot handle, thus breaking it in record time. "The only way I was able to rectify this was by shoving a piece of cardboard under the wheels at an ideal height that would still pick up dirt but not bear down onto to the carpet!"------- ------ In some cases the belt breaks and brush stops working. So inspect the belt and brush too.Sometimes its the broken belt or stuck-up brush problem causing this.--------- It's usually the belt that causes the brush to stop . What happens is, over time the belt will get hot, which causes the belt to stretch. Once the belt stretches out, it becomes too long, and will stop the brush from spinning when it feels any resistance to the brushes. This is most likely why the brush is stopping when you put it down on the carpet.---------- Getting this possibilities checked will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
