I had exactly the same problem. I got onto Dell support because my Inspiron 1525 was still in warranty and they told me to update the Bios which I did. That was nearly 2 months ago and I haven't had the problem since and it was a daily occurance.

I had the same problem I just updated the BIOS and now it's charging. Try this it worked for me. Download the update from Dell's website you need at least 10% charge on the battery for it to run after you download. Get your service tag # from the bottom of the laptop and plug into Dell when you go to download to get pointed to the correct update. BIOS update works!

What you need to do is,
Take the battery out for a few minuits. Then put it back in and start the laptop again.
If that doesn't work, turn your computer off and then turn it back on again and hit F2, then reset settings and that should make your settings on your charger "Plugged in and charging"

Sounds like your dc jack may be loose. If you can take it a repair shop they would need to take out the motherboard and resolder the connections to the dc jack, then at that point you can plug in your adapter and it will charge properly. As far as cost is I'm not sure but I feel that your ac adaptor is good, if you can try another known working battery then try that cause you still might have a bad battery and if another one works then problem solved.

enter the bios with F12 and battery status somewhere, you have to see if the battery is charging.
1 - if you do not recharge the battery, you can try a new battery if the battery schimnabata no (new) option 2 then it does not load.
2 - is necessary to change the motherboard, because the battery charging mode does not function normally.
warranty if you go to them to do.

Tom
i have inspiron 1525 as well ... if the computer wont boot up, then the mainboard may have experienced a power surge of excess current. did you have t-storm or power out while your computer was plugged in with Ac adapter ?

if not , to answer your question, the capacitors you inquire about are so small, it would require special solder machine to replace these CAPACITORs, as they are very tiny in size and require absolute temperature (heat) from solder gun to pally appropriate solder to replace the capacitor(s).

i think your mainboard is gone.

if i can be of further assistance, please let me know-- i can help

1525 dell battery not charging.

this could be one of 3 things.

Bad battery
Bad AC power adapter
Bad internal power jack (where the plug goes into the laptop)

The easiest thing to do is to try and use your laptop with the ac power adapter plugged in and no battery. This should work but if it doesnt then you know it probably is your ac power adapter. But if you feel like you have to wiggle and hold the cord in then it may be the jack on the inside. The only way I know how to fix that is to take it apart and resoder the joint holding that part together to make a stronger electrical connection.

As for the battery if you let it sit out for a day it will discharge any current it currently has inside of it and then you can try again to charge it. If that doesnt work and your cord and jack seem fine then you will need to look for a new battery to replace the one that died. This happens over a couple of years as the battery life shortens over the life of the laptop and more so if you use it heavily.

Dell 1525 won't run on ac but will on generic battery

Dell systems will not charge the battery without a Dell Branded AC adapter connected to the system (The BIOS looks for the adapter ID and disables the battery charger if not ID'd)
It appears, that since the system will not power on with either AC adapter, that there is a problem with the power connection of the system. You can replace the power board

if that fails to resolve next is the motherboard

Hey i had my dell inspiron 1525 for quite a while and now the charger stopped working for some reason. i need help

The charging circuit requires an ac adapter with an intact sensing pin in the center of the Adapter barrel plug that connects to the computer. If the pin is bent or broken, the charger is disabled.
If possible, try a known good adapter from another D or E Series Dell Portable. If a KG adapter charges the battery, replace the adapter. If it makes no difference, then replace the motherboard
