Fridge not getting cold enough...about 8 degrees C at best. Freezer (at the bottom) seems nice and cold (about -11). When I looked behind it I found no water in the bowl on top of the compressor. I assume that this bowl would catch the water from auto defrost. I have tried turning it off and letting it fully defrost. After 2 days of being turned off, and the bowl now over-flowing of defosted water, I turned it back, adjusted the freezer dial in the fridge to minimum and the fridge to maximum and great....-2 degrees in the fridge section. I thought all was fixed so I turned it off to put it back in place and then turned it on again, gave myself a pat on the back, came back 3 hours later only to find 8 degrees in the fridge again, and the same after being left on overnight....Help, Please !

Thanks, the freezer fan blows strongly and I can feel the air coming out the vent in the fridge. I replaced the defrost thermistat and the defrost timer but the freezer still ices up after 2 days and the fridge returns to about 9 degrees. What is left....the defrosting heater itself ? (which I assume is the 50 cm long black tube thingy just below the freezer condenser coils). I measured about 280 Ohms across this defrost element so I assumed it was OK ? Should the freezer fan blow continuously all the time ?...coz mine is.

I have a Westinghouse fridge/freezer 380 litres model BJ385BM-RWZ made in Australia. The fridge is at the top with freezer at the bottom. I switched it off and cleaned the freezer with slightly damp cloth and after 20 minutes, restarted the fridge. To my surprise, in the morning when I removed the bottle of milk from the fridge, found it at room temperature. Other items were also not cooled. I looked at the back of fridge and found the tray empty and underneath a small quantity of black liquid flowed on top of compressor. I am really puzzled as to what has happened to the fridge? The freezer is working very nicely. I have checked the door light which is working. Can somebody guide me as what to repair the fridge? Please email me. Suraj Narang
Is the fan in the freezer running? You should be able to hear it. If not, that is your problem. Check the door light/fan switch or check if the fan has power to it when you press the door switch in by hand. If fan is running, you could have a defrost problem. The defrost timer or the defrost heater could be faulty.
