    Need model number from engine.

What kind of engine do you have, Briggs, Kohler, Tecumseh? Single cylinder, twin cylinder? Craftstman is just Sears' brand name, they don't make anything. The mower is made by one company, the engine is made by another. That's why I need to know what engine you have to give you valve settings.

Replaced Battery, then starter. Still wont start.Still acts like it needs a battery or starter. Take out spark plug and cranks fine

if you took out the plugs and it spins over fine but wont with the plugs in. that leads to a valve not opening on time. check to see if the valve clearance is in spec. you may needs to adjust the valves to get it to start like it is supposed to .

A service manual is a valuable tool with an aging bike. I suggest the dealer/mfr. or Clymer books. In the meantime, go to the library reference section...646 stacks should have what you need.
