Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here:

SOURCE: Need to know how to install exterior door handles

I'm assuming that you have the coupe not convertible since I've had same problem with my 97 Dodge Avenger and this is quite common from what I have heard. The handle is held in place by two 10mm bolts. One is easily accessable, located right beside the handle with the door open. The other is a little harder to get at. The first thing you need to do is remove the inside door cover, held in place by four screws and push in clips along the bottom that pull out easily. Two of the screws are visible and in the top corners of the door panel. One screw is located behind the inside handle and once removed the moulding comes off quite easily. The other screw is in the hand hold where you pull the door closed and has a small plastic cover over it. If you have power windows you are able to disconnect the switches once the panel is off. If manual windows, the handles are usually held on by a clip that can be pushed off with a screw driver allowing you to pull of the crank handle. The window needs to be in the closed position so you can access the ONE 10mm bolt holding the outer door handle. Once the interior door panel is off, if any clips remain in the door, take them out and put them where they should be in the door cover it won't go back together properly if you don't. Now you'll need to pull down the corner of the plastic covering the door, don't remove all the plastic just enough to allow access to the bolt. I used a small rachet to get it out. It is in a stupid spot with not much room but is doable. Once out, the handle is only being held by the lock rods to the handle and lock cylinder. The lock cylinder is held by a retaining clip which can be slid off allowing the cylinder to be pushed out. The other rod connected to the handle has a plastic clip on it holding it in place. This can be opened with a small screwdriver. Once opened the rod will come out easily and the handle should come off the door. The only problem reinstalling, that I had, was reconnecting the rod to the handle and found that if you unscrew the door latch, the whole mechanism can be moved down, giving you more freedom to work with the rod. You might want to do this before fighting with the clip holding the rod in place, just a thought as I got mine apart in 20 min. Installing the new handle is quite easy, just attach rod to the handle FIRST before anything else. Once the handle is back on the door the lock cylinder can be pushed back in, it just gets in the way if you put it in the handle right away. Hope this is of some help.

SOURCE: cannot remove disk that covers screws to tighten my lock

The screws are located on the non locking side of the handle. To get the cover off most pop off by placing a small screwdriver behind the edge and gently prying. Paint/varnish will make this harder so you my have to take a razor and cut around it.

Please rate.

Most pop off by gently prying off with a small screwdriver. Some can be removed by turning counterclockwise a quarter turn. Please remember to rate my answer

Remove the knob by pushing in the small pin on the edge of the knob shaft. Then use a screwdriver in the small inset on the edge of the handle cover to pop the cover off. Tighten the 2 screws under the cover, replace parts.

Replacing the back hatch (door). I need to get the handle free to change out the key barrel. There is a long nylon threaded screw holding one end of the handle from inside the door panel. Once I get this...

I don't remember having a long nylon screw in this. Open the hatch, remove the sheet metal screws that work with the push pins to secure the interior cover. After removing those screws carefully pry the push pins up till they come free from the hatch. This will give you access to the lock assembly. remove the "C" clamp that holds the lock in place after disconnecting any rods that maybe attached to it and the lock should come out toward the outside of the vehicle. There should be no reason to remove the molding.

Need to know how to change batteries, I have ten properties with schlage keyless enties

It depends a bit on the lock and how it was installed.

For the Home locks with a panel on the interior of the door, remove two screws and take off the inside cover. These screws can be at the top and bottom or through the plate of the interior door handle. Then remove the 9V battery and install a new one. Put the cover back on and replace the handle, if needed, and the screws. (Do not use a cordless screwdiver - you could overtighten and strip the threads.)

Other installations have the battery inside the panel with the keypad on the exterior of the door. To access the battery compartment, you need to remove the interior door handle or lock. Then pull the keypad section out of the door. The 9V battery will be behind a coverplate on the back of the unit. This cover needs to be pivoted downwards to open the compartment.

The Schlage commercial offline locks (no computer monitoring) use AA alkaline batteries (4 or 8) in a block. The eight battery version has 4 batteries on each side of the block. These are all on the inside of the door. Remove one screw to get the cover off. Then remove two screws to get the battery holder off (this keeps the batteries from coming loose in the block). Replace all of the batteries and resecure both the battery holder and the cover panel.

For the consumer Schlage Locks manuals, see . For information on the Schlage commercial locks. see . The manuals are available in the Technical Library for each lock type.

I hope this helps.

Remove interior rear door panel

On the inside trim, you can remove screws (these screws may be covered by filler pieces or may be visible, or they may require you pry a plastic piece off that covers the screws) that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls.

Installing driver side interior door handle

pull the inner panel off by first un screwing the two screws located on the handle portion of the panel(they may have plastic hadeaway covers over the heads) then remove the window rolldown handle(if so equipped, manual window)then pull the plastic trangle from the inner of the mirror(this little tri angle keeps the trim down and secure on the door. then pull the palnel directly out there are small clasp pins in behind the panel try not to break these(but they do sell replacements at your local auto store) you will have to get ALL of these free then wiggle the panel up releasing it from the inner shell of the door and and window. you should now have a clean view of the handle. you will now need to droll out the rivit holding the handle to the inner steel of the door. pull the handle forward and it should be released from the inner steel now there clips holding the "rods" to the handles back side, they should have a little piece clipped to the rodto un clip these you need only push them off with your thumb. then replace handle with the new one, and uce a large steel screw to secure the handle when replacing back on door.

I need to print out a discription of how to replace a door handle

First, remove the window switch/door lock switches from the door panel, these are usually just clipped in, sometimes held in by a screw. Then, remove the outer cover for the interior door handle. This has one screw in it that you should be able to see (or see the little panel covering it which needs to be popped off first- be careful not to break it!). The plastic piece can then be slid slightly forward and popped out. Check to see if you have a speaker in your door. If so, you may have to pop off the plastic panel covering it, and unscrew the speaker, then disconnect the electrical connectors and take it out of the way. There should be two screws, if memory serves, underneath the grab handle of the door, and then just check the perimeter of the door panel to make sure there are no other existing screws in it. After all of the screws have been removed, you can then begin at the bottom and (carefully) pop the door panel out of its clips. Once the bottom and sides are popped out, pull up slightly to pull the entire panel up and off of the window sill. Now you can get to the actual door handle. Unbolt it, and disconnect the little clip/clips behind it which hold the metal bars in place. These bars are what pushes and pulls on the actual latch and lock assembly. Be sure not to break the clips! You may need to reuse them. The new handle can then be clipped back in, and then bolted back up. Important: Test out the function of the new handle before reinstalling the door panel and all of the accessories. If you have a problem, it will be much easier to fix or troubleshoot with the door panel already off! Make sure you dont lock yourself out of the car, in case the door handle fails. Once satisfied that the handle is working properly, install the door panel by hanging it on the window sill first, then lining up the clips and snapping them back in, this usually works best with a little smack of the palm against the door panel. If a clip will not go in, check to make sure it is properly installed and lined up. Once the door panel is fully lined up, screw in the two screws located underneath the arm rest/grab handle, and any other screws you may have removed. Install the speaker (if youve removed it) along with its plastic cover. Pop in the plastic covering for the interior door handle, and screw that in as well. Pop the plastic covering back on that. Now, reconnect and pop the window switch/door lock switches back in, and you should be good to go!
