SOURCE: sony vaio VGN FJ290P password reset sony vaio VGN FJ290P

I have set the password for administrator when i entered the bios set up. you can change its setting but not the configuration unless you've entered the password. you can't change the password with a new one if you cant enter the old password. Next time dont forget your password because laptops has its security even when stolen you cant open its bios set up if its protected by password. CMOS battery is in the mother board. You need a service technician to open your laptop to reset the bios setup battery.

You ARE using an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source, correct?

Otherwise you are going to Static shock your laptop, and can use it for a Doorstop.
(Or conversation piece,
"Hey what's that Stewart?" "Oh that was an attempt to repair an old VAIO I had." )

Average price is around $3 to $6. One example,

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245

I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.
You can also set a large metal serving tray (Unpainted), on the TABLE you are working on, and connect to it.
Or a large metal knickknack (Unpainted)

Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
(You can use a clean egg carton if you need to)

SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws.
Advise DO NOT mix them up.
(Especially since there is no free Service Manual)

Let's look at some of the casing parts, to familiarize you,

Get the Sony part number off of the Touchpad, to look up a replacement.

How easy is it to replace a palmrest on a Sony Vaio VGN NW series laptop?

The Sony laptops can be quite tricky to work on, I would suggest having someone that is trained replace it because there is a good chance of breaking something while stripping the unit down.

My vaio VGN-FW390 fan make noise.

The fan makes noise in high preformance windows like windows vista&7. So it is normal, because the windows uses motherboard, ram and graphics card with high preformance so they get hotter, so the fan get stronger to cool them or they will be damaged.
This noise also exist in windows xp, but only when opening high graphics game, or being working with the laptop for along time.

Remove and inspect non working keyboard VGN-T37GP

Sony makes getting a keyboard off it laptop like trying to launch a shuttle craft. Take the three screws out on the bottom, Push in the two detent tabs at the top of the keyboard, the hold it in place when on the palmrest. They are located at F5 and Num Lock keys. Now take a thin skewer or wire and push through where the screws were, this will release the keyboard. Now slide the keyboard toward the screen and that releases the lower detents that hold it at the lower part of the palmrest....nor unplug the cable and you are good to go. Oh, by the way below is the link to the service manual for your laptop....it has it fully illustrated.....
