Air is cold. Compressor outside works. The condensor will run for a little while, then shut off while compressor is still running.

Outdoor condensing fan motor has stopped running. This problem could be caused by a bad motor run capacitor. purchase a new capacitor. If your motor capacitor is not the problem, then more than likely you need a new motor. Is the fan blade tight, stiff or hard to turn? If the fan blade is hard to turn then you probably need a new motor.bobicehouse_96.jpg

The replacement motor is available from several sources online. The best way is to purchase the new motor assembly. All you need to do is remove the blower housing from the ceiling, there are three screws that hold the motor assembly in place. The whole job takes about five minutes. Here are a few sites with the motor.

I want a new motor for the patton 20'' cvt air fan

You can generally find new motors at an electric motor shop, check the yellow pages. However they are many times more money than a new fan. Then add time and your drive to get the motor, my recommendation is purchase a new fan, cheaper in the long run.

Disconnect power to the unit. Remove the fan blade. Remove motor from mounting bracket. When replacing the motor, replace the run capacitor too.

Broan bath fan motor has bad bearings.New motor or new bearings?

The motor is usually not repairable. You can sometimes purchase the motor and fan separate but that is about it. Here is a link to a blog about replacing motors.

Problem with fan spinning on an outside unit. It is humming, not turning.

Only two possibilities. Check the fan motor for bearing play. If the shaft moves side to side or the motor is hard to spin then it is time for a new motor (note being able to wiggle the shaft in and out of the motor is normal, even new motors will do this). Other possibility is the run capacitor for the fan. Usually in a/c's they use a dual run capacitor for the fan and the compressor. this will usually be a grey or silver, round or oval cylinder with either two or three terminals on it. If there are three terminals, they will be marked, (C, HERM, and FAN) mark all wires to make sure that they make it back to the same terminal on the new capacitor. If there are only two terminals then it doesn't matter which wire goes to what terminal, but if there are multiple wires going to a terminal, those wires must be kept together on the same terminal. NOTE: the capacitor will need to be purchased from a HVAC service dealer or some place like W.W. Grainger or Johnstone Supply (these are wholsalers and you will need a business afilliation to purchase).
