Question about Toshiba Satellite Pro A200-EZ2204X Notebook

Problem connecting to router

We have a Belkin 54G router. Two desktops are hardwired and work fine. We have three laptops. Two are wirelessly connected and working fine. The third (A Toshiba Satellite Pro) has been wirelessly connected in the past but after a IP outage today when all five computers were disconnected now cannot reconnect. This laptop stays stuck in "acquiring network address". We have disconnected, repaired, given it manual IP addresses, nothing seems to work. We also hardwired it which makes it work. When using the IP addresses provided by hardwiring it, the system shows that it is "connected" but in actual fact it isn't as our browser cannot pick up any internet pages. Any suggestions?

Type in your default gateway in your browser window. Generally, I think that's 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Then type in 'admin' for your user name and 'admin' for your password. Sometimes there is no password, believe it not. So you may find when you do this that you'll type in 'admin' for your user name and leave password blank... and then it'll work.

Log into the Belkin router and make sure that the DHCP services are running. If it is, and you still are not getting addresses, perform a factory reset of the router. There is a link in the web management console to do this.

My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

I have belkin g wireless that i have to constantly connect

I have experienced the same issue with belkin routers. First, test your laptop with other wireless connections {e.g. Starbucks, McDonalds, etc..} to see if your laptop's wireless adapter is working okay. If so then it sounds like your Belkin Router needs to be reset to the factory defaults and then your personal wireless network settings re-entered.

If that doesn't work it may have to be replaced.

Please provide feedback...

How do I put security on my Belkin 54g router

You set your security by enabling WEP.

When you get in the interface to configure WEP, set a pass phrase. Write down the 3 numeric keys it generates. Then connect to the wireless using your laptop, etc. When it asks for your passkey, do not enter the pass-phrase; enter one of the three keys that were generated by the router. That's the biggest mistake people make when trying to get wireless to work.

Trying to create a bridge with two routers

You do not need a bridge if you are using a wireless adaptor on your pc in the other room. Just set up the Belkin Plus router to the WEP security settings you want and make sure the pc wireless usb adaptor has the same settings as the router. You should be good to go. Good Luck.

One of five PCs not connecting to Belkin 54G router

I would connect it to the router using a lan cable to verify that it will get a IP address and connect to the internet. Write down the IP information and make a static wireless connection with that info. It should work hardwired and wirelessly with this info. If it doesn't work wirelessly you may have a bad wireless card or you may find that their is already conflicting static IP info in the connection that has to be removed. Make sure that on your internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties that you have selected "Obtain an IP address automatically" and Obtain DNS server address automatically". Clear any settings that you may see there.

Slow ping time

Hi,

Ping depends on the server network and not the configuration of the laptop. If the ping varies, you need to check the network configuration.

Any further help, let me know.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Wont connect to belkin 54g with wpa security applied

Please try using Wireless 'G' mode only in the router. Also, try using 'TKIP' and not TKIP+AES for encryption.

Please rate this solution, if it works for you.
