SOURCE: Printing from different trays
this can normaly be solved by going into the printer preferences and then setting the trays manualy in the software. otherwise the printer will automaticaly select the main tray first then move onto the mp tray. sorry if it sounds a bit vague but these options change from printer to printer and have not seen a k850 for a while Hope thyis helps Cops Pete@wedotoners.com

1 This works from HP help link in error message:
Turn off the HP All-in-One. 2 Press in the tab on the rear door to release the door. Remove the door by pulling it away from the HP All-in-One. Caution Trying to clear a paper jam from the front of the HP All-in-One can damage the print mechanism. Always access and clear paper jams through the rear door.

SOURCE: HP 4050N: Tray 3
Mostly the problem is caused by a defective papersize detection board. There are 2 solusions.
Replace the defective borad or leave tray 3 empty.
If you have a laserjet 4050 TN you can not remove tray 3 from the machine.

I will advice you reset the printer, follow the steps below to reset the printer,
1. Without turning the unit off, unplug the power cord from the back of the product.
2. Press and hold ?# and 6? keys.
3. While holding those keys plug the power cord back in.
4. Wait until the screen goes blank before you release those keys.
5. Follow on printer screen instructions.
If that did not fix the problem, try this,

ø Remove printer paper from its original packaging. Insert all unused paper into a large, resealable bag. Store the bag with the unused paper on a hard, flat surface away from extremes of heat and humidity to prevent curling, bending, ripping and wrinkles which can cause paper jams.
?? Remove only the amount of paper you need for a particular job from the resealable bag. Tap the paper stack on a hard flat surface to align the edges. Check the paper for rips, curls, wrinkles or bent edges. Remove and discard any unsatisfactory pages.
?? Insure all paper in the stack is the same size and type. Insure only paper types recommended for the HP All-in-One printer is being used. Recommended paper types can be found online at www.hp.com/support/inkjet_media.
?? Insure the HP Officejet All-in-one printer is not currently servicing a print job. Remove any original papers from the copier glass.
?? Insert the stack of paper into the input tray, short edge forward. Slide the stack forward until it stops. Do not force the stack beyond its initial stopping point.
?? Slide the paper width guide inward until the paper is held snugly in the input tray, but not so tightly that it bends the paper. Insure the stack of paper does not extend
?? Observe the printer during operation. Promptly remove printed pages from the output tray.
