Most gear boxes do not use grease. Gear oil which is moved over the gears as they rotate reduce the wear on both the bearings and the gears themselves. If this "grease" is not liquid I would not try to use it in a gear box.

Drivers side door window motor works window does not go down or up

It will be either a problem at the window regulator (the mechanism to which the glass attaches and raises/lowers it) or the gearbox attached to the motor.

This vintage had an issue with destroying three little nylon balls inside the motor gearbox that work against cam lugs. (Working from memory here & going back several years). I used to replace these by making my own pin-type rollers. I cut short pieces out of bolts, carefully measured to length, filed the edges and inserted in place of the nylon pieces along with a small amount of grease to provide lube. By doing this I was able to repair instead of replace the window motor. I THINK (but can't remember for certain) that I've seen these replacement rollers on the "Help" center misc. blister-pack section in almost all auto parts stores. Not sure if I have available an illustrated graphic of this gearbox or not. I can look if necessary. If you're not comfortable with or properly equipped for making your own parts for repair - then you'll likely have to replace the window motor.

Suzuki bandit sticky gearbox

Stop riding the bike until you change the gearbox oil and oil filter. Yes, the oil is probably the problem. I am somewhat surprised that the pistons haven't seized yet. On the bottom or lower side of the gear box there will be an oil drain plug. Drain the oil and put in new oil. The oil fill hole is probably on the right side cover near the rear of the casing. The plug will probably have a dip stick to measure the oil level. Put in 10w40 motor oil. Ride the bike for a few hours then drain the oil to help flush out the dirt and grit built up in the gearbox. Put in fresh oil and a new oil filter if the bike has a filter.

Your bike is 18 years old and parts can be difficult to find. Your bike probably has an oil filter. If so, it desperately needs a new one. Google " vintage suzuki motorcycle parts " . I can not find a free service manual online. You may be able to buy one at

Exsessive grease coming from chain sprocket area

If the grease is really thick and you don't lube the chain with that type of grease, then it would have to be from the swing arm being over-greased. If the grease is liquid then it would be coming from the output shaft seal. Get a new seal then remove the sprocket and clean the output shaft. Now remove the old seal and install the new seal.

By the way, if the oil in the gearbox looks like grease then it is past time for an oil and filter change. 10w40 motor oil.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Makita 8406C Gearbox oil

It uses grease to lube the gearbox. makita supply their own grease so you should be able to get a small tube from your local dealer. You don't have to use Makita grease though, just general grease should be fine. Not too thick and heavy, or too oily and light. I know that sounds a bit vague. Do you have other machines that you have grease for? SDS hammer drills, saws, any small power tool like that will use a similar type of grease.
