Whirlpool model ed2vhgxmt00 quit cooling

Helo sir

  • Check the temperature setting
  • Make certain there is a three inch space outside of the refrigerator between the walls and the back and sides and at least a one inch gap above, to allow for air flow
  • Clean the condensor coils
  • Unplug the refrigerator, wait two hours and plug it in. If you hear it running, a problem is causing the compressor to overheat
  • Test the temperature control
  • Test the evaporator fan
  • Test the defrost timer
  • Test the compressor relay
  • Test the overload protector
  • Test the compressor motor
  • thank u

I have a whirlpool refrigerator model ED25TQXFW01 and it is not cooling. fan runs and it clicks but does not engage compressor. is it the compressor or the starter relay?

You can purchase a kit which is part number URCO410 which is a new relay, overload, and capacitor. If its a newer whirlpool you will want to hook the wires into your old capacitor. It comes with instructions its very easy to install. The reason you want to use your OEM capacitor is because it will draw a lower amperage and give your compressor a longer life as opposed to using the capacitor that comes with the kit. Hope this helps _MJ_

Clicking sounds I believe the relay is clicking. I cleaned the coils and that didn't help. I put another fan in back blowing on the condensor and the clicking stopped. If I replace the relay, will that...

    Good day,
The relay is part of the starter kit which should include the relay.
If the compressor has no internal problems, then yes it should work.
A trained tech has the tools to run the compressor independent of the machine and test it's condition and whether it qualifies for the start components.

Your choice on whether to buy the parts. Electrical parts are non-returnable.

    Compressor not coming on

You can test the starter or just put a new one in. If the problem is not the starter it's the compressor which would be expensive to work on or replace. Test starter-

    Not freezing or cooling

The clicking is probably the starter/overload relay which starts the compressor. If the relay is good then the compressor is bad. Check your compressor relay-

Whirlpool side-by-side refrig., compressor clicks to start, but doesn't start then clicks off and tries again shortly after.

Hopefully it's just the compressor starter relay. You can test it with an ohm meter. If it rattles when you shake it it's bad. If the relay is good than there is a problCheck your compressor relay- with the compressor.

    Smell electircal burning

The Starter Relay consists of various parts depending on the make and model of your unit. Most larger Refrigerators have these 3 components: The relay itself, the Overload, and a capacitor. If you replace the Relay and if another component is bad then you would still have a problem. A service technician could test each component individually. The first move I would make is to use an Amprobe electricians meter and check the amperage that the compressor is pulling. If the compressor is VERY HOT to the touch and pulling a lot of amperage current, than you'd need to have the compressor replaced. THis is usually the case if the unit is approx 10 years give or take. This is a very expensive fix...usually around $500 or more so it's probably worth buying a new Refrigerator if that's the case.

    Refrigerator issue with the starter

Sometimes when these relay fail (and they all do) they fail shorted (letting current flow from L1 to N) not open (not letting any current flow) and they may arc so bad that they destroy the compressor terminals. If the terminals arent destoyed then ohm out the compressor, make sure it isnt grounded and then replace the starter.
