I have a kitchenaid with the same problem. Red light blinks twice when open is normal. Hold the flap down and the red light will be on.= normal= optics are working. If the ice rakes rotate, module is probably fine. Check the simplest solutions first, defrost the freezer in case the icemaker water nozzel might be frozen. That solved my problem. I then increased my freezer temp by a couple of degrees and so far, no problems. Good luck.

I was able to remove the motor module by pressing together the two tabs that held the left arm of the shut off bar to the motor module. I purchased a new KitchenAid motor module (substituted a part by the factory). I replaced the motor module and I now have ice making again. The only difference though is that with the new motor module, the on position with the shut off arm is know longer in a 3 o'clock position but more a 5 o'clock position.
Hold the flap in .....the light should go on solid as long as your hand isnt blocking the beam. There have been lots of modules (the motor and brain of the I/mkr) breaking. I recommend replacement of the IDIM. Is there any water in the mold?? Where are the ejector blades loacted?? Are they stuck down in the mold?? Do they rotate easlily by hand?? These are signs of the broken module.
By manually moving the ejector blades you have now broken the ice maker module. (The brain and the motor of the icemaker). Kitchenaid had a batch of thermostats that arent working properly in these Indoor ice makers. I reccommend getting an entire new IDIM icemaker. You will have the improved module whith stronger gears (however you still cannot manually move them) and the improved thermostat.
